UCF Softball Season Tickets not available

Just called the ticket office to find out what was happening with the deposit I put down for softball tickets and was told that there were no season tickets available. 🙁
They sold out season tix last year and apparently they didn’t have many people not renew the few openings went out in order of when they received the deposits…

Bummed, but I guess I’m happy that there is support for our amazing softball program. I hope they expand that stadium soon.

OT: Prepaid Legal Services offered via employer. Worth it?

Hi All

I'm starting a new job and my org offers prepaid legal services through https://www.legalresources.com/ - I figured there's lawyers here on the board who may be able / willing to weigh in.

Sorry I'm bad at benefits stuff and already dreading figuring out my insurance stuff - this was an added box to check and I figured I'd ask you guys and gals for experience.

Cost is $20/mo and the PDF says:

EEI provides the opportunity to purchase comprehensive legal coverage through Legal Resources for an affordable monthly rate of $20 per month. This legal plan benefit provides 100% coverage for you, your spouse, and qualifying dependent children for a broad range of legal services, protecting you and your family from the high cost of attorney fees. Members have access to a network of top-rated, full-service law firms locally, and one of the largest national attorney networks in the country. More information can be found at www.legalresources.com

Services Covered
• General Advice and Consultation
• Family Law
• Elder Law
• Criminal Matters
• Wills and Estate Planning
• Traffic Violations
• Civil Actions
• Preparation and Review of Routine Legal Documents
• Real Estate
• Consumer Relations and Credit Protection
• Identity Theft

I'm not clear if it means I can do all this shit for free or I just get a discount if I ever need it. I've never really needed a lawyer for anything in my life but I feel like maybe I should consider this service for $20/mo? Does anyone use this type of service via their employer and are you satisfied with it?

UCF belongs

Football season was fine for a g5 moving up, we looked reasonably competitive in a few of our losses. We beat the hell out of the 15th ranked team in America in the process.

We just took out the #3 basketball team in America.

WBB has been competitive and is building. I anticipate a strong showing from softball this year too.

UCF belongs. Our athletes, our fans, our brand. We’re p5 and deserve the position we’ve worked hard to earn.

Plenty of time to debate some of our vestigial g5 coaches / baggage but today we should all feel real freaking good

OT: For 13 years, ESPN submitted fake names of "associate producers" to win Emmy trophies for their on-air talent

Just a funny story I saw... for 13 years ESPN executives submitted fake names of "associate producers" working on College GameDay in order to get extra Emmy trophies for their on-air talent who were not eligible for the awards. They then engraved new nameplates with the real names of the on-air talent and stuck them on the statues before giving it to them.

As first reported by the Athletic:

For those who don't have it, report is summarized here:

"Stars such as Lee Corso (fake name: “Lee Clark”), Kirk Herbstreit (“Kirk Henry”), Chris Fowler (“Chris Fulton”), Desmond Howard (“Dirk Howard”), Tom Rinaldi (“Tim Richard”) and Samantha Ponder (“Steven Ponder”) were among those to receive the ill-gotten Emmys. The report additionally suggests Erin Andrews might have received an Emmy through the scheme (“Erik Andrews” was the name on the credit list), and highlights a photo of “SportsCenter” anchor Linda Cohn showing off Emmy statuettes that she would have been ineligible to receive."

37 Emmy trophies had to be returned once the scheme was uncovered.

Big XII Conference Games - Regional/Specialized Media Coverage

I almost posted this in the Kansas game thread, or somewhere else. But I figured we could use a dedicated thread of more Regional or Specialized Media Coverage of Big XII Conference Games.

So, here's Clutchpoints, who I've been reading recently more and more, on the Kansas game, with great quotes of Kansas HC Bill Self.

QUOTE: _'“[UCF] went soft press, back to zone and then ended it man to man,”... Self said “When... Hunter out [foul trouble], we didn't really have any offense... didn't do a good job of penetrating the zone.... We were awful against their zone... we struggled for the rest of the night”... wasn't that Kansas basketball played poorly... UCF had a good plan in place. Self gave the Knights credit. “... UCF totally took us out of everything... created because of UCF's activity. They're really athletic... Johnny's done a great job and give them credit, they were better than us tonight. There's no understating that... The game was lost... in the last four minutes of the first half and obviously, the first three minutes of the second half. The depth of the league is great...”'_

Johnny Dawkins - the Kansas Killer?

10 years ago in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, No. 10 seed Stanford, coached by Johnny Dawkins, eliminated No. 2 seed Kansas, 60-57.

Stanford advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, it was their only NCAA appearance under Dawkins .

The "vocal minority"

I think I have stumbled on Marc Daniels' favorite catch phrase - "the vocal minority." This morning on The Bridge thats how Marc described fans who are upset with Johnny Dawkins job performance - The vocal minority who do not understand that we joined the toughest conference in the country, etc etc.

Well how about this Marc? Its not just one game that has the majority of UCF basketball fans upset including the vocal part. Its the following:
  • It's failing to finish above .500 in conference since 2018-2019
  • It's a 5 game losing streak in conference last year
  • It's losing 9/11 in conference two years before that
  • It's losing 8/10 in conference three years ago
  • It's losing over half a dozen contributing players and having to scramble to backfill with NGEs
  • It's failing to do anything meaningful despite landing an NBA lottery pick
So no, its not just one game where they played badly.

SOUND BITES: Meet new UCF Knights QB KJ Jefferson

The UCF Knights introduced new QB KJ Jefferson, who signed with UCF out of the transfer portal from Arkansas.

Jefferson chose UCF based on the offensive system, his familiarity with Gus Malzahn, and the different playmakers the Knights have on offense.

Head Coach Gus Malzahn believes that Jefferson is an NFL caliber QB who has all of the tools to be successful in the Knights offensive system.
