Tickets and Multiple Parking Passes

I always buy extra tickets each year for family and friends. I end up selling a couple when none of the kids friends end up coming. DM if interested in tickets or parking. I don't mind splitting them up but obviously discount goes to someone who wants the entire season. Items I have:

Parking - Lot D2
Parking - Garage C
4 tickets in Section 223

I'll leave this post up for the full season unless it all sells.

Phenomenal Photos from the Coach Malzahn radio show tonight.

Ok, even though the weather was really challenging Coach Malzahn indicated we were able to hold practices. (Thank goodness for an Indoor Practice Field)
Coach Malzahn also indicated our Team will be flying out to New Orleans Friday morning.

First up concerning the 3 players who were interviewed was Senior #77, Offensive Lineman Lokahi Pauole.
He had a lot of family and friends there tonight also.

Marc points to the supporters of Lokahi.

Family and friends of Lokahi.

[New G5] Football 2023 Maps, Tables, Logos? (2024 and 2025 too?)

I'm really at a loss with all the conference changes and shifts. Other than the MAC, and the MWC (for now), it's fairly messy. As I understand it ...

  • AAC: Adding 6, going to 14 (15 total, but Navy is football only, and Wichita State is basketball+olympic)
  • C-USA: Losses all but 3 or 4, but is adding 2 plus 3 more from FCS (1 not until 2024?)
  • SunBelt: I literally lost track, some in 2022, others in 2023 ... could be the challenging AAC overall?
    • I really like the new SunBelt ... seems very regional, like conferences should be
  • MWC: No changes (yet)
  • MAC: No changes (very likely no changes at all)

The Wikpedia page still lists the current, with citations that notes moves. But I'd like to see the completed 2023 football season tables. Anyone have any tables, or graphics?

***UCF vs. Tulane Football Preview with Guerry Smith ⚔🌊🏈

This could be the biggest home game at Tulane in a generation (or two).

For the first time since 1949, a ranked Green Wave team (No. 17 in the latest College Football Playoff ranking) will host another ranked team - No. 22 UCF.

Inexplicably, ESPN chose another venue (Texas) for College GameDay but Saturday will still be a special day in New Orleans.

For our preview, we caught up with Guerry Smith of the TheWaveReport.com (Rivals) who also doubles as the Tulane beat writer for NOLA.com (combined website of The Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate newspapers).

Smith, who has covered Tulane full time for nearly a decade, says this is clearly their best season since the undefeated year in 1998 with head coach Tommy Bowden and quarterback Shaun King. 1998 was also Tulane's last conference championship. They've never appeared in a Conference USA or American Athletic Conference Championship Game.

Early on, we talk about the big turnaround for the Green Wave under Willie Fritz, who has led the program since 2016.

The 2021 team was faced with early adversity when Hurricane Ida forced relocation to Birmingham. They had to spend nearly a month in Alabama under less-than-ideal conditions. They nearly upset Oklahoma in the season opener (a game that was originally scheduled for New Orleans until the hurricane forced a venue change to Norman), but the wheels fell off after that. The Green Wave ended the season with a 2-10 record.

Despite the disappointing showing, Tulane brought back virtually their entire roster and also loaded up on key transfer portal additions. Quarterback Michael Pratt has taken a big step forward to become one of the better quarterbacks in the AAC. Running back Tyjae Spears is one of the best players in the league. He's coming off a trio of 125-yard-plus rushing games.

Defensively, Tulane has a No. 1 AAC ranking in both scoring defense (16.9 ppg) and total defense (307.3 ypg). That unit is led by a pair of experienced linebackers in Dorian Williams and Nick Anderson.

This year's Tulane team is 8-1, which includes a non-conference 17-10 win at Kansas State and a perfect 5-0 mark in the AAC. They do have three of their toughest conference games in this final stretch between UCF, SMU and Cincinnati.

The one blemish on the schedule is a 27-24 non-conference loss to Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles are coached by former Tulane offensive coordinator Will Hall.

There is optimism this game could be nearing sellout status. Yulman Stadium opened on the Tulane campus in 2014. The Green Wave had been playing their home games at the oversized Superdome since the mid-1970s.

Lastly, Smith gave his sleeper pick for a New Orleans food recommendation. He likes Parkway Bakery and Tavern and specifically their po-boys.

OT: New Drug Reverses Neural and Cognitive Effects of a Concussion

Given that in contact sports like football concussions are actively common, I thought this was good news to share. Minimizing the impacts of brain injuries can proactively help the lives of untold numbers of people around the globe.

ISRIB, a tiny molecule identified by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)researchers can repair the neural and cognitive effects of concussion in mice weeks after the damage, according to a new study.

ISRIB blocks the integrated stress response (ISR), a quality control process for protein production that, when activated chronically, can be harmful to cells.

The study, which was recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, discovered that ISRIB reverses the effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI) on dendritic spines, an area of neurons vital to cognition. The drug-treated mice also showed sustained improvements in working memory.

Fighting for the Soul of the GOP

I’m a Republican and voted for Trump twice. Elections aren’t ever foolproof or perfect, but Trump lost by too much to say it was rigged. Stop embarrassing Republicans and making this look like a cult following. The mail in votes killed him.
Of course it did. Any sane, rational Republican knows that.

And guess what? Once upon a time, most Republicans:
  • Believed in conserving our natural resources.
  • Believed in the life-saving nature of modern vaccines.
  • Would have considered themselves Democracy's strongest advocates.
  • Were anti-Soviet Union and anti-Russia
  • Believed in Science.
  • Believed in working across the aisle to pass important legislation.
  • Put together an actual policy platform to share with voters prior to a Presidential election.
  • Accepted the outcome of elections. (Just imagine the 2000 POTUS election with today's cast of characters IN REVERSE.)
  • Were fiscally-conservative and actually cared about the national debt.
  • And guess what? You could be a Republican and defend a woman's right to choose. Imagine that!
So what has happened to the Grand Ol' Party? Why are many Republicans (and former Republicans) shaking their heads in disbelief with where the party is now. Why are they being blasted as "evil libs" by the MAGA Crowd? To me, the most dangerous political trend I've seen in my lifetime has been the way the batsh*t crazy MAGA crowd had usurped the party from responsible Conservatives.

If true conservative leaders like Liz Cheney don't turn the party away from the spineless cowards who continue to play along with all the idiots out there, this country will eventually be screwed because the nature of American politics is to ying and yang between the two parties. Once upon a time, regardless of your party affiliation, you could trust that our elected leaders would keep this country on an even keel. But now? Holy sh*t, its scary as hell to even imagine the MAGA Crowd back in power!!!

Random memory about Tulane and coach's call-in radio shows

When the sun goes down, 870 WWL out of New Orleans comes in almost crystal clear. At least it used to, haven't really checked in a while.

If I was driving somewhere and wanted to catch something interesting, I'd occasionally tune into 870 to see what they were talking about. Back in the late 1990s, early 2000s, I believe they were the flagship station for both LSU and Tulane football.

At some point, I remember tuning in on a random night and realized they were hosting the Chris Scelfo Show. He was the Tulane coach that followed Tommy Bowden after their undefeated season in 1998.

I'm not sure what year this was... I'm guessing it was the early 2000s, but the coach's shows were so entertaining. They accepted calls from anybody and majority of the callers just completely blasted him about how poor of a coach he was, questioning decisions he made, etc. I was surprised at how unfiltered it was because usually "official" outlets like try to block any sort of negativity. This wasn't just one week, but was a running theme for that particular season.

The GOL show rarely had call-in capabilities... and I think it was permanently yanked after @SADUCFKNIGHT got through after the Pitt game in 2006.

The current UCF show format doesn't allow for fan questions.

UCF Football X's and O's Film Breakdown: UCF and Memphis... plus: Tulane Preview

The Sons of UCF and UCFXOS collaborate to bring you a film breakdown of the UCF Football win over Memphis from the 2022 season. In this contest, UCF held on to a late lead and defeated the Tigers 35-28, largely due to big plays from RJ Harvey, Kobe Hudson, and Mikey Keene. UCFXOS, Andy Bartsch, helps to break down some of the key plays and moments to the game, including skillful run-blocking techniques, defensive line pressure, and wide receiver routes. Looking ahead, Adam and Andy also provide a quick preview of UCF's upcoming opponent, the Tulane Green Wave.
