Poll: Who should start vs. Tulane: JRP or Mikey Keene? 🏈

Who should start at QB?

  • John Rhys Plumlee

    Votes: 56 11.6%
  • Mikey Keene

    Votes: 426 88.4%

I know we have a long thread, but let's put it to a poll. Assuming John Rhys Plumlee is fully cleared, healthy and ready to go for a full week of practice, should he reclaim his starting role or should Gus continue with the hot hand of Mikey Keene?

OT: Will UConn football join a conference?

Chris, if Jim Mora stays at UConn and consistently gets them fighting for bowls, does that improve their chances to get into C-USA or the MAC down the road? — Louis S.

Before I get to the question about conferences (a hot-button topic for fans), let’s just take a moment to really appreciate the job Mora has done so far. UConn is 5-5 right now after the Huskies won four games total in their previous three seasons. The defense is one of the most improved in the country in stop rate and was especially strong in October. In 2018, this was arguably the worst defense in college football history. A win against a ranked Liberty or a down Army would make the Huskies bowl-eligible. This program has been so bad for so long and Mora is turning things around in his first season. A remarkable job all around.

As for the conference situation, I’m on record saying I think joining Conference USA as a football-only member would be a good move, and UConn fans are very much on record toward me that they think it would not. C-USA had real discussions with UConn last year, but the appetite from fans and boosters isn’t there. My argument to join a conference is that playing for nothing but bowl eligibility is largely boring and lonely. There are no conference rivals, weekly awards or standings to follow. And an expanded College Football Playoff guarantees at least one spot for a Group of 5 champion.

Most UConn fans I’ve heard from believe that playing more games against northeastern schools is preferable. I don’t believe those things are mutually exclusive (you still get four nonconference games in a conference). But look, the Huskies beat Boston College and UMass and declared themselves Kings of New England. That’s really cool.

UConn also believes a Power 5 invitation could come someday. I’m skeptical. But if Mora continues this trajectory and turns UConn into a consistently competitive team, who knows what could happen. I just hate the purgatory that is football independence.

UCF Versus Mercer Women’s Basketball Game Canceled (Wed night)

ORLANDO – UCF Athletics announced Wednesday that the women's basketball game scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 10, against Mercer has been canceled due to Tropical Storm Nicole affecting travel to Florida.

The Knights' women's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Campbell. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Gore Arena and Pope Convocation Center in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

Tulane

So, I watched pretty much the whole game of Tulane @Tulsa. Tulane looks pretty good but I think UCF can beat them.

their RB and Qb are really good. The offense looks efficient and a lot like UCF offense. I like that both teams will be ranked in the top 25.

It's weird getting my brain around Tulane being ranked higher though. Not use to that! I'd be curious to see who vegas favors.

Here is a local NOLA article that explains a lot of their players

Tulane head coach Willie Fritz on UCF: "Golden Knights" are talented across the board ⚔🌊🏈

Tulane head coach Willie Fritz didn't say a whole lot specifically about UCF during his media address on Tuesday, though he did compliment the Knights' overall talent. Later in response to another question about distractions, he said all they have to "worry about is 2:30 (p.m. CST kickoff on Saturday) and playing the Golden Knights."

Message board software upgrade

Just a heads up that our message board is slated for an upgrade, tentatively scheduled for late Thursday night/Friday morning (probably around 1 a.m. EST on that early Friday morning). Rivals is planning to do a few upgrades (site by site) each day.

During the upgrade, the board will be totally offline. The upgrade could take hours, so not sure if it'll be up and running by sunrise or not. The larger the forum archive, the longer it will take.

The Mississippi State site already has the upgrade. You can toggle light/dark mode via user preferences.
