OT: Cancer fundraiser for a 7 year old girl

A friend's seven-year-old granddaughter has Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). It's an inoperable and incurable brain cancer.

Seventy-five to 80% of DIPG patients don't survive 12 months, 90% don't survive 24 months, and only 5% make it to five years.

Vivian is her name, and she's a delight. She completed 30 radiation treatments and will have an MRI in the next few weeks to see how effective the treatments were.

The family is faithful and has incurred tremendous medical expenses. The future holds more of the same.

If it's on your heart to help, you can do so at this link. It also provides updates in case you'd like to learn more.

Here's a link to the DIPG Resource Network. It's very informative.

Thank you and God bless!

Violence at UCF game

A fight in end zone seating left a UCF fan bleeding from the head and getting medical attention. He was handcuffed and cops ordered some Cinci fans to keep sitting. I recall several years ago seeing a UCF fan in a pushing contest with a USF fan. No blood, no handcuffs. Has there been an upturn in these kinds of things since we added beer? Were there any serious fights after the Gator game last winter?

UCF Football X's and O's Film Breakdown: UCF and Cincinnati

The Sons of UCF and UCFXOS collaborate to bring you a film breakdown of the UCF Football win over Cincinnati from the 2022 season. In this contest, UCF racked up over 250 rushing yards and backup QB Mikey Keene made efficient plays to lead the Knights to a 25-21. UCFXOS, Andy Bartsch, helps to break down some of the key plays and moments to the game, including QB decision making and the UCF offensive line.

Citronaut Pins - which design do you guys like better?

Stickermule has a deal on pins, 10x for $9. I was going to do a little citronaut and maybe the new knightshead.

I'll mail them out to folks on the board whenever they get to me.. I just want a couple and $9 was a no brainer. They're acrylic not enamel but still maybe neat as a little lapel pin.

What do you like better? Canaveral Blue or Black/White? they're sized to fit the logo, not on a background.

i'd really like a black / white / blue outlined pin like what is on this nike shirt but i don't have that handy.

OT: Hypothetical UCF Football job Offer

so based on the fact that we all pay $100 a year to talk UCF sports I kind of figure most of us have a dream job working in ucf athletics in some capacity. I want to present this scenario to you and curious what you would do.

say you are a 1st year Offensive Analyst at Georgia Making 130k a year, UCF reaches out to you and wants you to become their new Offensive Analyst but can't match Georgias salary. what is the discount you give your alma mater / dream school in order for you to make the change. i know we all love ucf but im curious how much we are willing to sacrifice in a real-world scenario like this

why I ask, I'm currently a GA at an SEC school and I hear there's an opening... (just kidding, but sort of)

***Ithiel Horton loving the family atmosphere at UCF ⚔️🏀

Ithiel Horton feels UCF is the perfect place for his fresh start.

The former Pittsburgh guard averaged 11.2 points with 49 starts over the past two seasons. Horton figures to be a key component for Johnny Dawkins' team as they embark on their final year in the American.

UCFSports.com caught up with him at the recent media day.

Horton was quite candid right off the bat, acknowledging his suspension at Pitt last season that forced him to miss 19 games (he was embroiled in legal proceedings stemming from an altercation with a tow truck driver and law enforcement). After entering the NCAA Transfer Portal in March, he believes many schools were hesitant to recruit him.

His initial contact with UCF was via assistant coach Mamadou N'Diaye.

"Coach Mamadou said Coach (Johnny) Dawkins is very meticulous and very careful with who he recruits," Horton said. "Given my past history, that meant a lot to me. He was able to overlook a mistake that happened and believed in me... When I got down here, I hopped off the train at the airport and saw the palm trees. I thought then (my recruitment) might be over, but let's see the school. When I got there it felt like family. The atmosphere was very warm and loving."

Horton said he tweaked his knee shortly after his arrival which required arthroscopic surgery. That set him back about eight weeks, so he wasn't full go until the first week of September.

Asked about his basketball abilities, Horton said his jump shot is his specialty.

"I pride myself on my aggression. I pride myself on doing what's best for the team. I pride myself just overall lifting the team. When I'm on the court, I'm doing everything to help the team. I'm not a detriment to the team. I'm out there doing everything to make the team better. That's what I take tremendous pride in."

Horton thinks this is a resilient team. It's also a team that's not afraid to challenge opponents.

"I can't curse on camera, but we really like to get into your stuff and make you overthink. We're tough and scrappy."

Asked about freshman Taylor Hendricks, Horton said he's very active around the basket with a smooth jumper, good I.Q. and "off the charts" athleticism.

Horton began his career Delaware where he was named to the CAA All-Freshman team after averaging 13.2 points. His coach there compared him to Eric Gordon. His previous coach, John Capel at Pitt, likened him to Bryn Forbes.

Knowing he's hitting the tail end of his college career, Horton is thinking about only one thing.

"I want to win. I want to win games. Obviously I have individual accomplishments I want to achieve, but I've never had a winning season in college. I think that would be my biggest goal, to have a winning season with 20-plus wins and some postseason. Go far in the conference tournament. It's our last year in the American. Hopefully win the championship and go to the NCAA Tournament."

He rooms with Michael Durr, Brandon Suggs and Lahat Thioune. I asked who was the best cook. Nobody, really. He says they're spoiled by the offerings at the Garvy Nutrition Center so they usually eat all their meals there. If they eat out, he's a big fan of the local Waffle House.

Stadium Concern and really bad look

Take some time and review the game. With 007 secs left in the 3rd quarter (1:45:35 mark) the camera goes to the coaches box to talk about how Cinci's OC has abandoned the run and primarily just passing.
What you see in the picture is a terribly rusted metal structure. Hoping it's not structural and perhaps just a holding basket. But come on, paint it for heavens sake.

I noticed it right away.

***C.J. Kelly brings experience to UCF Basketball: "I just want to win" ⚔️🏀

C.J. Kelly doesn't care if he's averaging two points or 40. He just wants to win.

A transfer from UMass, the Long Island native is among several newcomers to the UCF men's basketball team this season. UCFSports.com caught up with Kelly at the recent media day.

This will be Kelly's fourth school. The Long Island native played his freshman year (2018-19) at Norfolk State, transferred to Albany and played one season (2020-21) following a redshirt year and then moved on to UMass (2021-22).

After looking at his timeline, I believe he has two seasons of eligibility remaining. During the interview, I asked if this was his final season of eligibility and he seemed to agree, so we'll see. It does appear he could have an extra COVID year if he wants it.

Kelly was a double-digit scorer the past two seasons - 14.3 ppg at Albany and 10.1 points last season at UMass.

Here's a recap of our conversation:

Kelly said Coach Dawkins and the coaching staff really sold him during his recruitment in the portal.

"Everything felt perfect," Kelly said.

He said UCF called him every day when he was in the portal.

"We have a great team, we want you. Come be a part of it."

Kelly said it's "more than basketball" with UCF.

"It's more of a family. The connection is always going to be there even after basketball. That sold me a lot, especially coming from my last program."

As for his role, Kelly brings experience and leadership. He prioritizes defense and can create for himself offensively. He said he is recognized as a scorer and a three-point shooter.

"I think I'm a guy that can do a little bit of everything. One of the strengths is creating for myself and others. I'm a three-level scorer. I make a lot of hustle plays. Hopefully the crowd will like that. I'm a scorer."

Kelly said it's been a "fun challenge" learning to play with one another.

There's two C.J.s on this team between C.J. Kelly and C.J. Walker. I asked if there's some confusion. He said sometimes he's called "Kelly" and other times "CK." He doesn't like the CK abbreviation because that's his dad's name.

Asked about who has impressed, Kelly said it's tough to single anyone out. He then name dropped Michael Durr, the Indiana transfer who also has played at South Florida.

"That man is a horse down there. Great hands, can finish with the left or right. Can shoot it. What can't he do for a bigger guy?"

He also loves the Hendricks twins, Taylor and Tyler.

"They're both very talented. I watch these guys and I'm like wow. They don't even try it looks like sometimes."

Kelly said they learned a lot from their recent secret scrimmage with Georgia.

"You saw what we can be and where we are right now. I learned a lot from my guys, like where they want to be on the court and where they want me. How the coaches are. It was all good."

What does he want to accomplish this year?

"I just want to win. This is my fourth year playing. I've only had one winning year. I just want to win. That's all I want. Average 40 points, average two points. If we're winning, there's nothing like it. I just want to win and help take the program as far as it can go."

Who is the funniest guy on the team?

"Mike Durr. I laugh at a lot of people in general, but Mike and I are real close. We laugh at coaches. We laugh at players. Some people are just funny in general. Ithiel Horton is funny in general. He's a funny guy. I'd say those people."

I asked if he's every been compared to any NBA player. One of the players off to the side said Steph Curry (I didn't catch who said it). Kelly said he's heard comparisons to Paul George and Joe Johnson.

What are his expectations for the season?

"The guys are very excited. Expectations are high. This program expects nothing but greatness. The guys are ready. We're tired of killing each other in practice."
