I'm on the fence about Johnny Dawkins and here's a few reasons why:

Dawkins broke Stanford. Prior to Dawkins hiring 13 NCAA tournament appearances in 14 years, the one year they missed they went to NIT. Since Dawkins touched that program, 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 15 years. Program destroyed.

That mentality is long gone, the do more with less. Replaced by need to have equal or better to compete.

I'm on the fence about Johnny Dawkins and here's a few reasons why:

They played 12 ranked teams this year. Previous coaches probably didn't play against 12 ranked teams over the span of their entire career at UCF. Vanderbilt football has multiple top 25 wins over the past several years, is that because they are a good football program or because half their...

I'm on the fence about Johnny Dawkins and here's a few reasons why:

He has coached 251 games at UCF, with a couple highlight games and an avalanche of lowlights. However, as long they keep pumping the highlights he can continue to lower his career (Stanford/UCF) conference record of .479 (138-150). As long as the expectation is not to finish last in the...

Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal Open Thread

Didn't Cincinnati sweep UCF this year and last year. However, I guess head to head matchups doesn't matter.

I'm on the fence about Johnny Dawkins and here's a few reasons why:

With a non conference schedule that ranks 260th, fighting for an above. 500 season shouldn't be that hard. Giving an extension post 3 game losing streak to USF is consistent with timing of annoucing Malzahn's extension. If Malzahn loses to USF in a bowl game he might become UCF first 8 figure...

I'm on the fence about Johnny Dawkins and here's a few reasons why:

To be fair UF, FSU, Miami, FAU, now Stetson, and USF has made noise in the last couple years. Not as bad as UCF baseball (maybe this year is different), but the basketball team seems to lag behind the rest of the state.

In addition Mohajir signed Baseball coach Lovelady to an extension in 2021 after a .500 season, only to fire him less than 2 years later.

    Clemson v ACC

Compared to every conference not named SEC/Big 10 its a very solid conference. However, there is still not a single program at the same level as some of the ones in the big 2. The way things are shaping up, I would expect ESPN/FOX trying to figure out how they remove/replace programs like...

    UCF to the NIT?

Houston lost to TCU mid season, announcers bring up that Houston walked into the game wanting revenge. It took 8 minutes for TCU to score a single point. USF swept UCF last season with a lame duck coach. USF had a meltdown over the weekend, resulting instead of playing in tournament to...

Rut Roh: Big 12/ACC on board with new CFP format, per report (lank)

Could be a compromise that they know majority of at-large build will only come from SEC/Big 10

Moving fast, guess B12 commish is content with making it a basketball conference first.

UCF's inaugural campaign in the Big 12, thru Winter Season

Weird how UCF was able to succeed in 2017-2018, with recruiting classes of 74, 70, 68, 50 leading up to it. Good thing Gus wasn't here.

If Dusty May leave now, after signing a new contract and a new buyout after last season he's going to want a lot money. He was a feel good story last year with performance and resigning. UCF would have to be ready to throw out more than double what they are giving Dawkins.

Big game tonight, #1 Houston visits UCF.

Regardless, you are playing a matchup that would never happen come tournament time. Like a bowl game with backup players vs. backup players. Not the same as a playoff game with starters playing. Why does an Auburn fan concern themselves with UCF baseball?

Big game tonight, #1 Houston visits UCF.

Rankings will change, but mid-week games have less weight in college baseball. Generally college baseball teams build their starting rotation for Fri-Sun games, the pitchers that start mid-week games would rarely see the mound in tournament times or conference play, except maybe as relief...

    2023 and 2024 Schedule

In almost every case they played a team on there schedule that would have ended up in the 4 team playoff if they did not beat them. Right now no one from Big 12 is posed to make that run, and if they do from a voting standpoint is going to be given the Florida State treatment. A couple 1-2...

    2023 and 2024 Schedule

Probably pointing out that UCF has 5 spots to fill for 2025/2026. Two will go to FCS, but that is still 3 games that have to be signed in 2 years. Small percentage of FBS teams have openings in the next two years aside from signing FCS game, smaller percentage for programs that are descent...

    2023 and 2024 Schedule

Would guess similar to 2024 vs. New Hampshire vs. Sam Houston. Lucky for UCF that Big12 only has 3 OOC. Team is now having to travel out west 1-2 times a year so probably no west coast teams. At this point FIU/FAU probably has a lot of leverage in negotiations with UCF. UCF will likely be...
