98 Football Season Recap Video (Daunte's Senior Year)

Wow! That video conjured up some great memories. I made road trips to both the Purdue and Auburn games that year with some friends and my wife-to-be.
The gut punch last minute loss to Auburn was heartbreaking but the fact that we were left out of a bowl game opportunity was the toughest pill to swallow. Culpepper and so many of his great teammates were truly robbed of that opportunity.
Also… I kinda forgot just how good Siaha Burley was in a Knights uniform. After the Purdue game, so many of their fans walked over to our group to comment about what a great receiver he was. He went on to be one of the very best receivers in Arena Football League history back in it’s hay day and he probably should have been playing on Sunday’s in the NFL.

If I remember right, Burley was in an NFL camp, was injured- a knee problem I think, or another unusual injury/limitation.

Kenny Clark, Daunte's cousin, spent 2 or more years in the Vikings. A bad back kept him sidelined.

Yeah man getting left out of the Oahu Bowl that season sucked big time. It came down to a game between Miami and UCLA if I'm not mistaken. An upset happened and the dominoes didn't fall our way. Only games we lost that season were to Auburn and a Drew Brees lead Purdue. 9-2.

Again if I remember right, a dropped INT on Auburn's last drive.
I don’t specifically remember a dropped INT on Auburn’s final drive. But I rather clearly remember our defender stumbling/falling and getting burned on the out-and-up pattern which led to their go ahead touchdown with time winding down!
There was a very large and vocal contingent of UCF fans at the stadium and we collectively felt our hearts sink when they made that play. It was really like the only big offensive play Auburn made the whole friggin’ day! UUUUUUGGGGGHHH!
Another example of a huge UCF defeat being snatched from the jaws of victory!
So many of us old timers had to endure these types of heartbreakers against the big time programs. I got so tired of hearing about ”moral victories“. Thankfully, I was also at the big game vs Alabama in 2000.
UCF is undefeated vs Bama, Baby! 😜

Not sure how many of you have seen this, but I enjoyed every second of the 30 minutes! This is when I knew I'd be a Knight for life! I'm 40 now but I'm so glad that I fell in love with UCF when I was only a teen during the Culpepper years. How far we've came!
Thanks for sharing that! Brought back a lot of memories. Man, DC was just amazing!!!

You were there! I was watching it in a Bar in West Palm Beach. Then after the game I had to take xanax after that fumble at the goal line.

I was in school back then. I remember talk about Daunte's hands and not handling snaps well because of the Auburn fumble (but he was a freaking superstar). He was the thing which propelled the school forward (especially his time in the NFL). The next big thing was George O'Leary and the 2013 team led by Bortles (who honestly was kind of soft looking as a freshman but boy did he get good). After that Scott Frost and Milton lead the 2017 team to glory. Heupel and D Garbriel did okay but man f*ck those guys. Now we've got Gus Malzahn in the house and I'm expecting more big things. Crazy to think how far the program has come. No wonder other people hate us. But they really shouldn't. It's not like there's a ton of upstart programs who have the demographic destiny we do.

you can see why we joined the MAC when no other more regionally appropriate conference wanted us. they were the majority of our schedule late in the season.

I've finally gotten around to watching the video, and while the Stabach hit was big, at 12:40, was bigger!

Don't forget Kevin Smith's unforgettable, record breaking 2007 season.

We were at Auburn...oh wow was it exciting and heartbreaking. Really enjoyed watching Culpepper, such a pure strong passer.

Why is this the first time Daunte is coming on campus?? We should be asking him to come every frickin year as well as other NFL knights!

I think there was a falling out after they got rid of Coach K. Pretty sure he and Oleary have different views on life and football.
