Around this time last year East Carolina's Top 25 ranking disappeared in a stunning loss to Temple, but nothing was more stunning than UCF's loss to UConn effectively ending the mystique we had in our conference. By the end of the year no teams in the American were ranked although Memphis did make an appearance after their bowl win.

This year the American has four chances to make a statement and three of the will be on primetime TV.

#16 Memphis vs Tulane - CBS Sports 7pm
#18 Houston vs (SEC) Vanderbilt - ESPN 2 7pm

...and the biggest game of them all. #21 Temple hosts #9 Notre Dame at 8pm on ABC.

I can imagine none of the American's best teams last year was this good. That said there's always next year. #chargeon

The rest of the schedule - East Carolina vs UConn 7pm tonight, Navy vs South Florida 12 noon (rooting for Navy to stay at one loss before facing Memphis and Houston), Cincy vs UCF 12 noon (with GOL out i'm rooting for Barrett, but if we lose it keeps Cinci looking respectable in the East), Tulsa vs SMU (rooting for a win for the SMU coach)

ECU is looking like they will be taking the nose dive towards the end of the year.

Exciting time for AAC. Lots of quality teams. Wish we weren't the weak link. Will definitely be watching the Temple game.

Wondering where the conference ranks now.

according to real time we are ranked 7th, but lets see how valid real time is if we houston defeats Vandy and temple defeats notre dame. Lets see if Houston and Navy winning helps the conference as well.

ECU got killed in every aspect of that game. It was not as close as the score shows.

I think Navy may well beat us today. Even if we win, we have the dreaded "Navy letdown" next week vs ECU. Those Navy guys kill the D-line's knees.

Navy beats South Florida and moves to 6-1. Memphis is struggling against Tulane.
Houston is handling Vanderbilt.

I doubt Notre Dame thought the Temple game would be played in front of a capacity crowed on a Saturday Night on ABC. That said i'll be surprised if Temple makes this a game.

Very nice to see a packed house. Far cry from the near empty stadium when we visited in 2013. I'm happy for them.
That's the way college football should be. Better days ahead for us.

Temple takes the lead 10-7.
Houston destroying Vandy 27-0.
Memphis struggling with Tulane 15-13.

Big 12 should expand with Houston, temple, cincy and Memphis.

north Division

Cincy, Memphis, temple, West Virginia, Iowa st, Kansas, kansas st

South division

Texas, tcu, Baylor, Tex tech, Houston, Oklahoma, oklahoma st

No expansion needed. Our conference should compete with the p5 every other year. We maybe outmatched recruit wise but that's where developing talent comes in. It's cool seeing your conference mates representing on primetime.

ND wins.

Good night for the American though.

Houston shuts out the SEC.
Memphis holds off the spoiler.

Keep grasping at those straws. Really pitiful that central florida fans have to look elsewhere for validation Like hearing their school name mentioned by a player on a primetime game or looking at overall conference performance.

There is no hierarchy among the G5 conferences. They all are second tier. Might as well call them FBS division II.

Pathetic isn't it? I like the one poster who asked if the American can be considered a power conference now. Haha no the conference will just be ransacked and be left with the likes of UCF and USF

ND thought it would just be another ND "home game" when this game was scheduled several years ago...because even if Temple was having just a .500 season like last year, odds are there would have been enough ND fans to sell that place out.

ND is still a top "Northeast" College Football Team...and has been for generations of Catholics.

goodness dude....I can be negative sometimes but all of your posts seem like you are rooting for UCF to be left in lower division hell forever. I can't take you seriously when you think Temple has a brighter future to be in the P5 as a Football Program over UCF despite this disastrous season

Yep.., nearly 100% of his posts are negative. No matter what the subject is.
Mind boggling actually. Geez, say something positive about anything.

Sometimes I wonder what type of life/jobs some of these people have.

So.., who is your team anyway?

Early prediction: Paxton Lynch goes pro early so Memphis gets a taste of a program-changing QB leaving early, without the same kind of player to take his place (Memphis is a good team but the QB makes all the difference at the college level). He's already pegged as the #3 QB in most rankings I've seen. I've seen Goff play a couple of times and I don't see him as the #1 QB. I haven't seen Connor Cook play enough to get any gut feeling on him. I think Lynch has a big upside at the next level. One of the coaches from Temple, Houston or Memphis gets bought-out and a pay raise to somewhere at the big-boy table (or they will get at least get pay raises added to their contracts to keep them around).

Maybe it's Temple's 5-101-1 record against ranked opponents that has convinced that person that they are vastly superior?!?!?!?

I think Fuente is a better coach than late years O'leary but I agree with you. Houston is built better to not drop off with a QB change, they have speed everywhere. Herman has a massive buyout though so the only Programs willing to just throw away 3 mil might be USC or South Carolina.

Go UCF

You mean like when Penn State played at Lincoln Financial early this year? Big difference. Yes there was a big crowd at that game too. That was about it.

Coach Rhule got an extension and raise to $1.5M. We can give him more, but he already agreed to that deal.

Toledo losing tonight guarantees at worst a NY6 Bowl for the AAC Champ. Good thing they lost bc they would have got destroyed in a major bowl game like NIU or Hawaii in the past.

Temple, Houston, and Memphis can play with and beat anyone this season

I'm actually excited to see one of them play the big boys. I think Houston is a really good football team and Memphis isn't far behind IMO. This will mean more money for the AAC teams and any bit would surely help us.
