Interesting look at what teams have had at their disposal over a 5 year period in regards to hoops recruiting budget, plus a snap shot of one season (2012-2013) as well.

Here are how the public schools in AAC (2013-2014) ranked in regards to their previous year in regards to recruit budget rankings (2012-2013)

Louisville: $542,229
Memphis: $191,888
Cinci: $175,021
USF: $142,258
UCONN: $121,146
Rutgers: $118,611
ECU: $84,643 (ECU was a conf member of UCF in 2012-2013 in CUSA...and remained there for 1 more year)
Houston: $79,587
UCF: $69,642

Some schools with higher recruiting budgets that year than UCF:
Kennesaw State (ASUN)
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Southland)
Coastal Carolina (Big South)
Wright State (Horizon)
Youngstown State (Horizon)
Illinois-Chicago (Horizon)
Southern Miss (CUSA)
FAU (CUSA)
FIU (CUSA)
Marshall (CUSA)

Ask USA TODAY...as they obviously thought this information on most baskeball programs across the country (mostly unknown) would be interesting to many fans.

This new info to me was interesting.

Well, when there is roughly 20% less scholarships to fill, you don't have to spend as much.

Getting good players to come to a short-handed program that will be on probation for 3 years is not the easiest thing to do either.

Also, looking at the 5 year averages, only one year in which UCF was on probation, UCF was still clearly in last place in regards to recruiting budgets from AAC teams (current and/or past).

5 year recruiting budget averages (2008-2009 to 2012-2013)

Louisville: $404,814
Memphis: $174,664
USF: $144,788

UCF: $74,960

Maybe the small recruiting budgets is the reason why UCF Coaches (Kirk and DJ) have whiffed on more than a few of their recruits. (Yes, even top programs with larger budgets whiff on recruits from time to time as well)

And who's fault is that?

So you're saying it's not Donnie Jones' fault, right? Probation, loss of scholarships, shrinking the recruiting budget, that has nothing to do with him screwing up the second he walked through the door, right?

I want to find a job where I can come in and mess up immediately, create a financial burden as well as tarnish the image of my employer, yet still not get fired. Must be so nice.

Don't think I did...all I said since maybe you didn't know so a quick internet search would probably help you find that specific info...which will show that the Chicago Connection started with the recruitment of AJ Rompza (tied to Caldwell) under the old coaching staff (UCF had to vacate all victories during AJ's first 3 years) with Tribble wanting coaches to push the boundaries in recruiting by using runners/3rd parties like most major programs, and then DJ continued that movement and even expanded it to Louisville with Bender (who was also working with then UCF Football Coach David Kelly too).

I'm curious, how much of the basketball budget is used to teaching fundamentals like how to make free throws?

THAT, my friend, would be a wise use of dollars.

I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

Another day goes by and Donnie Jones is still the coach. Curse that low budget, I guess.

Another day goes by and you still have the inability to have an intelligent conversation about UCF and/or AAC Hoops.

Keep whining...we know you won't support the next UCF coach or the next one after that and so on.

Sad reality of the funding of our program. This is not going to change for the foreseeable future either. UCFAA will be doing everything that it can to squeeze money to compete on the COA front and recruiting budgets will be one of the things that will stay flat.

That said, I expect the rest of the conference to move towards 100k as the average or below it, because they too will be throwing money at the COA expense.

I won't be the least bit surprised if some schools in the conference do not fully fund sports, and some support staff will be cut.
I think that might happen at P5 schools that have more than the minimum number of varsity sports (believe its 16).

Believe UCF is already at the minimum so the huge addition of "cost of attendance" will probably stop UCF adding any new sports (Beach Volleyball, Mens or Womens Lacrosse, Swimming/Diving, etc...) for the foreseeable future.
