American Athletic Conference approves 8+4 schedule for 2020

Wait. How will this change what we we're already doing? Or does it just confirm we're going to keep doing what we've been doing?

Have to hope DW will take 2 for 1 with a Oklahoma or someone else. We are not in a position to hold out.

Home games is virtually meaningless this year anyways. No revenue, no home crowd. Only risk is you are making your team travel, with a greater chance to have your team infected and end up losing players for future games or even forfeit.

FAIL

10 conference games plus 0-1-2 OOC + conference title game would have been money. Aresco is an idiot....as if we didn't already know this.

Weren't we going to get rid of divisions anyways because there are only 11 teams now? Now we are going to keep them? That means different numbers of teams in the two divisions...that makes sense...not. This guy knows we're going to have 11 teams again next year as well, right?

Why can't we just keep our current schedule??

FAMU already canceled their season. UNC game can only happen if UCF plays at UNC. No news on GT.

Right now UCF has at least one OOC game to fill and potentially three. With less than a month before the season starts.

FAMU will play as an Indy from what I’ve heard. The 2 ACC games could be scratched or both played in their states. We’ll see.

The GT game is back on, and has been moved to Sept 19th. The UNC game is likely off unless the game is played in North Carolina. As for FAMU, they are rumored to be playing as in Independent and may retain their game with UCF possibly. This would put UCF at 11 games and would need to only add one more to get back to a full schedule. (Hoping for another ACC or Big 12).

I think we will keep all of our in conference matchups. This announcement was just confirming that we're going ahead with 4 OOC games and letting us know we should look to fill OOC slots. Especially because our previously scheduled OOC opponents are canceling their games with us.

If our teams play a full 12 game schedule they automatically have the opportunity to get more wins than teams in other conferences...

That's a good observation. Not sure how much it will help when all P5s are playing 10 conference games though. Few chances to really "prove ourselves" vs P5s. Though so far UCF's schedule is looking ALMOST as good as it was before. Losing the UNC game hurts, especially as they are ranked #19 in the Coaches Poll.

Why not just play @ UNC if they are up for the challenge? We were supposed to play there a couple years ago and it got cancelled. Schedule it for the 26th if we can move ECU to another date.

I mean you'd think that could be an option (since @UNC was cancelled by hurricane the other yr)... then just reschedule this yr's home game to another yr if you want. But from the looks of it they'd rather cancel this home and home and continue with the next upcoming home and home later this decade.

Yea I believe the Colley Matrix actually weighs the number of wins heavily. If that's correct it's a big opportunity for the AAC.

We're in a great position this year with depth if any of our stars tests positive for Covid 19. Hope not but in great position with our depth not true for a lot of other teams. As A.D. White said they have a thick Covid 19 protocol book to follow so it is going to happen this season for all teams. There are a significant number of false positives happening too which will prevent some players from playing on weekends. Our family went through a bunch of tests due to one in family testing positive but it was false as they tested negative twice after that and the rest of us tested negative as well. Thank God!

I've even heard multiple stories where person decided the wait was too long and left line before they actually got tested and got notified that they tested positive. Tests aren't guaranteed. Glad to hear that we may start vaccines at end of November. I wonder if athletes will be in the front of the line for vaccines?

vaccines in November?!? would be great, and I really hope so, but less than likely...

This season looks very dead right now. Just like the BLM movement is under the covers a socialist movement, the "Proposal for Change" document is a document to declare a strike by college athletes and demand for union and pay (NOT a Covid 19 CYA document). This isn't something that can be figured out quickly and wont have major ramifications on college institutions.

Guess I'll become a golf fan. The players practice social distancing too :)

The strike you describe will be self inflicting and is why I don't think they will strike.

Our draftable players have a lot to lose, Robinson, Gowan, Nixon, Williams, Grant, Collier, Anderson. These are the players that need to step up and speak out against a strike if there will be one.

The team can strike and maybe they cause some social change. But they are also risking millions, life long dreams, and all the sacrifice they've made this far.

Another avenue for social change would be to become a famous NFL player and join the NCAA after a long successful career.

And that will help their family get out of hood and live the American Dream. I’ve lived long enough To know more people care about themselves than future generations. I’d rather myself and my immediate family be good which will help my descendents to prosper. Not sitting out and helping someone else’s family and mine poor in 80 years still.

Strike would be extreme, and very unlikely.

White and Heupel should be having a meeting with the team. Address their concerns, have dialogue. White's public statement came off as very CEO type speak, so if that's the only response the football players get from him then I can see things progressing in the wrong direction.

Agreed, a theory I have is that perhaps some older players who likely won't make the NFL might be promoting the letter, but this is just complete speculation.

I'm all for the players being as safe as possible and voicing their concerns and putting their health first.

This happens in some negotiations when one side starts to feel another side is asking for too much. The side with power starts to act tough.

Some of their requests are reasonable, ie frequent testing, transparency, up to date health information, etc.

But some are overreaching from the view point of leverage. For example, elimination of COVID liability waivers, 5 years health coverage after last season if contracted. Double stipend and 20% revenue sharing. This would be like asking my boss to quadruple my salary or I walk.

These requests won't be met. Especially because you can't trace where you got COVID from, you may play a game and not get it, but you get it from another shopper at Publix who was coughing. Not a snow balls chance in hell UCF eliminates a COVID waiver.

The idea here is to get a good degree and good reputation through the school's sports scholarship.

The NFL stands for not for long and most players who make the NFL don't get enough money to change their lives let alone the lives of their families.

Back in the days of immigrants coming to U.S. from all over the world the bread winner would use their salary to provide a home or apartment where the extended family could live. Everybody who slept in the home would provide something for the household. Nothing like what we see today where everybody wants their own stuff.

I joined the military to begin my journey of attaining the American dream. I used 44 of 45 months available of G.I. bill to get a B.S. and M.S. degree. My parents couldn't afford to send me to college. I left my bummy friends to do something with my life. Yes, I was very blessed but I understood that hard work at every level of my adult life was required to move forward. In the 80s, I noticed the movement in my work place to hire and treat minorities as equals (ie. hiring, pay). This followed what had begun in the military in the 70s. This included coming down on sexual harassments. I understand that people are still marginalized for their skin color or sex (Not good). However, some people act or speak like nothing has been happening over the years (B.S.). This is re-visionist history as far as I'm concerned which is very popular these days.

I'm surprised that GOL's statue hasn't been torn down yet as he is declared a racist. He was just a hard a$$ and old school coach.

The players that you mentioned do not need to speak out against anything. That is not their job. Nor is it our place to tell them what they need to do.

The issue is that there are a few players who are making this into an us vs. authority issue, not a health issue. Look at the Twitter of several of our players. They are wanting to not play for the wrong reasons, many are upset about social issues and civil unrest, which is understandable.

What I'm saying is, not playing is only going to hurt the players because our Senior class has a lot of NFL level talent, and taking a year off could be detrimental. And if they want to have a season, the NFL caliber players need to step up and speak out on playing because they have the leverage.

I'm all for players sitting, if you don't want to play, then don't play. But let those who want to play, play.

Your claims are stupid. It's not your job to post on this message board, but you do anyway.. your logic doesn't make any sense dude

Sorry, didn't realize that you are the god of responsibilities and logic.
