PROVIDENCE, RI – The American Athletic Conference membership once again will gather for its annual meeting at the Grand Hyatt DFW in Dallas, Texas.
Presidents, athletic directors, senior woman administrators and faculty athletic representatives from The American’s 13 member institutions, as well as Conference staff members, will attend the meeting on Wednesday and Thursday, May 29-30.
“Our annual meetings always have been very productive for our presidents, athletic directors, SWAs, FARs and Conference staff members, and I expect that once again we will have healthy conversations about our league, our future initiatives and the issues facing college sports generally,” said American Commissioner Mike Aresco. “We want to continue the momentum we have built since the announcement of our media rights extension with ESPN in March and we will spend considerable time discussing campus production infrastructures and programming distribution plans for 2020-21 when our schools will begin producing events for ESPN+. Our football coaches enjoyed excellent meetings in Phoenix in April and our men’s and women’s basketball coaches also met earlier this month in Atlanta. We are pleased that Stan Wilcox, NCAA Executive Vice President of Regulatory affairs, will attend our annual meeting to discuss current issues affecting college sports, including the NCAA’s recent decision to appoint a working group to examine recently proposed federal and state legislation related to student-athlete name, image and likeness, as well as the NCAA’s approach to the proliferation of gaming on college sports events and the men’s basketball FBI investigation. We also look forward to a report from our faculty athletic representatives regarding our very successful third annual Academic Consortium meeting, which was held in March at the University of Tulsa.”
There will be several Conference committee appointments for 2019-20 announced at the meeting. In addition, three student-athletes from The American’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will attend the meeting and provide a review of their initiatives during the past school year and an update on future projects, including the Committee’s highly successful Pow6rful Minds campaign.
