This article is from the 2014 season leading up to the Oregon/Utah game (and yes, Utah actually killed Oregon this year) but really liked some of the quotes and gives another insight about the new identity of UCF's offense. Really hoping it works here. Will be a lot of fun.

No. 5 Oregon’s offense is all it’s quacked up to be

Eventually, the theory holds, defenses adapt.

Wing T, wishbone, West Coast, option — all had their day, and teams still run variations of these, but they do not confound anybody.

Put them in the right position, teach them what to do, and your 11 guys can stop their 11 guys.

To that, Oregon says: Hogwash.

***********
It's "a defensive coordinator's nightmare," acknowledged Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. "We've got our work cut out for us."

What the Ducks do is no great mystery.

The foundations of the offense are the inside and outside zone read plays, which they practically announce to the defense before the snap.

A zone read, of course, is a quarterback option through which he can either hand off to a running back or pull the ball out and keep it, if he feels a key defensive player — usually a defensive end — is cheating toward the back.

Oregon counts on defenses overpursuing its speedy ballcarriers, who can then break back toward open territory. They mix in play-action passing and screens to further penalize defenses for aggressiveness, and then, when defenses tire or become overly patient, the Ducks simply run through the gaps that were earlier saturated with bloodthirsty opponents.

Add to that Oregon's famed tempo — at times lightning fast, and often staggered — and it can be maddening.

"I think it's that, and also the fact that we have so many weapons," said Ducks senior center Hroniss Grasu. "We're not the team that has a star receiver who we're gonna give it to every play. You have to respect all the options. Everyone is fast. Everyone can make plays."
