Anyone watch the N. Illinois Toledo game last night? Matt Campbell

I watched the game into the end of the third. Northern Illinois must have had some fight to come back down eight points with the momentum going neither way.

Is Bresnahan his D coordinator?

NIU converted a 3rd and 39 on his defense with their backup QB

Out of all the realistic candidates Collins is my #1 choice after researching the names being thrown around. He would be a great fit at UCF. There were UF people talking him up as a rising HC candidate in the Spring.

Campbell = NO
Collins = YES

That's just how I feel about the situation.

I personally rather have head coaching experience. Collins works with the top talent in the country on defense. Hardgraves is probably the best corner in college. I'd like to see someone winning with little resources and non elite recruits.

1a) Mike Campbell
1b) Dino
3) Leavitt

Then all the assistants

That wasn't the case at Mississippi State and he was the D-coordinator of the team that got to the Orange Bowl.

Id rather my head coach be the best recruiter. OC can call plays. Frank Wilson > Campbell

You do realize that when you become HC you can't recruit like you used to. Head coaches are very limited in the amount of time they're allowed to spend on the trail. They need to be a closer, that's what O'leary did, he made the final pitch on the kid and we usually got our top targets. I want a coach who can coach and knows up and coming recruiters cause those are the ones who'll be doing all the work. O'leary might not have been a great recruiter himself but he brought in a lot of up and comers who were plucked by bigger schools and did really well, that's what we need.

I will veto Leavitt.

So-so. So far when games matter, he hasn't produced. His team this year is very heavy in upperclassmen. When they were up 17-10 in the second quarter they ran a fake punt basically out if their own endzone. Some like that stuff but I thought it was a really poor decision for that juncture of the game. When you're winning you don't pull crap like that from inside your own 10 yard line. You play your game. If that was unsuccessful at that time it could have changed the game for the other team. If our staff pulled that, they'd be mocked and hung in effigy.

Are you GOL?

You are way off. Having the HC as the strongest recruiter on the staff is very important especially for a Program that doesn't have the Assistants budget of a UF or FSU. And turnover happens with Assistants much more often than with your HC.
A bunch of 2 & 3 stars.
Another single game example. Collins was the DC of Sunbelt FIU when they beat Louisville with Teddy Bridgewater at QB. Look up some of his interviews on youtube, he is a players coach that is very likely to improve UCF's recruiting in Central Florida

Having the coach as a good recruiting is nice but knowing how to win, making in game adjustments and coaching kids up is much more important in a coach. As you said we don't have the budget so we'll lose assistants, that's why we need a coach who can make 2 and 3* kids good. We will have periods where we lose a good assistant so we won't get the best players but if we have a coach who can work with less talented players the better. GOL was really good at making less talented players better, these hot shot recruiters are used to having the best players, I want someone who can do it with marginal talent as well.

I think that Babers could be interesting in a quirky kind of way.

I think all the names popping up seem like good options.. I'm afraid some name is going to come out of left field and disappoint everyone..

What??? Disappoint fans on this Board? You can count on it. I am guessing that with as many HC jobs that are out there this year that salary negotiations are at a premium. I predict that UCF hires someone that nobody on this board is talking about and there will be a huge cry of anguish. :popcorn:
