How many politicians volunteer for anything especially if it isn't a political stunt? How many politicians decreased their pay while they enforced commie restrictions? You seem to eat up that MSM propaganda.

AOC wanted to limit planes...lol. this shouldn't be an option for her unless she bikes for a few days.
Remember when Trump went to Puerto Rico after the hurricane and was criticized for it? I'm sure that was different though.

Yeah, don't you just HATE those publicity hungry, do-gooders?

Much better to 'be honest' like your boy, Ted Cruz, and go on a Mexican vacation to escape the cold, right? 🙄

ROTFLMAO 😁

You've GOT to be kidding me!!! Throwing a few packages of paper towels around like you'd see cheerleaders throwing rolled up t-shirts to the crowd at a football game is your equivalent to volunteering at a food bank??!?

Didn’t read the story but good for her. The people that benefit will be grateful.

Doesn’t make her any better on policy though.

I agree! 👍

Yep, any better or any worse.

You would think people could applaud politicians like AOC for a generous act of kindness without ridiculing her while excusing Ted Cruz when he goes off on a Mexican vacation.

Solid photo op session.
You've got to love a blind partisan's point of view:

Ted Cruz leaves Texas for a Mexican vacation during the state's energy crisis and KNIGHTTIME opines "What could he have really done?"

New Yorker, AOC raises $2 million dollars for the Houston Food Bank and flies down to volunteer and KNIGHTTIME deadpans: "Solid photo op session."

Actually 3 million now...

I dont see any way ERCOT survives this. Greater Texas is going to have to connect to one of the national grids now, and I don't see why they wouldn't want to. The western grid could use Texas' production capacity and would buy wholesale all year long.

I agree also whole system must be upgraded...Wind mills need to be fixed and heaters added. Natural Gas must also be upgraded.

B-B-But THEN Texas would be subject to...gasp!...FEDERAL REGULATIONS!!!!

God forbid, they spend money to winterize their grid like everybody else did. Freedom for Texas!!!

No, and no. They already have to meet federal regulations. Winterizing has nothing to do with that. They just need to accept the fact that it is economically advantageous to connect to the grid. The only reason they haven't is because of pride.

NY is a basket case, maybe she should try serving her own people.

Yeah, God forbid you say anything good about a woman who helped raise 3 million for the Houston food bank.

No one is asking you to like her politics. But, Christ, are you people so blinded by your partisanship you have find new ways to bash her even when she's HELPING Texas through their crisis for crying out loud???!?

That’s not why Brand New Congress selected her during their open auditions to primary Crowley. They ran her as part of a nationwide campaign to reshape the Democrat party from the bottom up in order to run the progressive platform they derived from the ashes of the first Sanders candidacy. Nowhere in that manifesto does it say “represent your district to the best of your ability.”

If you hadn’t heard of Brand New Congress, here’s their website. They have a very well written platform of progressive ideals couched in flowery language about individual freedoms and liberty. This group is highly effective and well-skilled. If you’ve ever wondered how AOC can be so politically adept while being so stone cold stupid about basic principles of government and economics, it’s because this group is the power behind the person. So much so that AOC’s chief of staff is one of BNC’s founders.

You do recognize the difference between recommendations and regulations right? I'm assuming that you know that wind turbines in Arizona are not heated either, right?
Ask upper mid west and northern states about windmills in -0 degree conditions. Texas went cheap. Now it will cost them.

Yeah, but in their defense there was no logical justification for freezeproofing those wind turbines for something like this. You prepare for the likely, not the nearly impossible.

They had winter storms in 2011 and investigations recommended they winterize their system, so there was absolutely justification for it. If people would quit making excuses for failed systems maybe we could actually do things to better this country.

It isnt a yearly thing by any means, but Texas has known this is an issue since at least the late 80s.

This also isnt the fault of wind turbines, another outright lie the GOP is trying to push. Wind turbines only accounted for 13% of the power loss. If everything else hadnt failed, it wouldnt have been nearly the disaster, or, if the turbines didnt fail but everything else did, it still would have been a disaster. This a complete failure of the Texas system no matter how many excuses people try and make.

I think you just made the point of why there was no justification for putting heating kits on them. It's not enough energy to justify the expense. The failure was in their gas and coal plants.

I am pretty sure this mess is going to end up being a lot more expensive than winterizing their system. I know it was gas and coal plants, I just said that. The wind turbine angle is just lies from their governor and others in the GOP to take heat off of coal and gas. Those plants were also not winterized despite reports from previous years that they needed to be.

THIS ^^^^^^

President Biden has declared it a national disaster so the rest of us can help pay for the Longhorn State's stupidity with emergency aid.

Which is ironic, the state that most openly talks about seceding will have to rely on the Federal government because of their own incompetence. I certainly have no issues with the federal government stepping in with disasters, but at the same time, states and cities should also do what they can to prevent the damage a disaster might have. In this case this was entirely preventable and now the rest of the country is going to have to bail them out because of the failure of their politicians. This wasnt a hurricane barreling through Florida, or a tornado, or wild fire, etc. No matter how prepared you are for those types of things, they will still cause some levels of damage. This was 100% the failure of the power system because proper steps werent in place to prepare for cold weather, and that is 100% on the politicians.
