Are we Less Racist Under Trump

If we’ve been told anything since the dawn of Trump, it’s that his Presidency has made us a more racist country. Is it true?

A study from the University of Pennsylvania found that anti-black and anti-Hispanic prejudice has declined since 2016.

Fake news. I just shot a black guy this morning while my mexican slave girl made me breakfast burritos.

I know its impossible to convince someone to change their mind using facts and logic when they don't use facts and logic to arrive at their current position, but yeah, you're full of shit as usual OP.

Police data has shown recent uptick of total hate crimes
Hate crimes are defined as "crimes that manifest evidence of prejudice based on race, gender or gender identity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity," according to the Hate Crime Statistics Act passed by Congress in 1990.

Hate crimes can be committed against people, property or society, and can include violent attacks, robbery, as well as arson and vandalism.

The FBI reported 7,175 incidents of hate crimes in 2017 (the most recent data available). The number of offenses presents a 17 percent increase from 2016, and an uptick for three consecutive years from 5,479 incidents in 2014.

A NEW STUDY CONFIRMS (AGAIN) THAT RACE, NOT ECONOMICS, DROVE FORMER DEMOCRATS TO TRUMP
Research on Iowa counties that swung from Obama to Trump indicates that GOP success was driven far more by sexism and racism than by economic anxiety.

Interesting. Hope the OP responds.

For one thing years ago most things were reported as a general crime. Next point we have a huge increase in fake hate crimes and it is becoming a serious problem. 23 fake hate crimes against Trump himself since 2016 and 0 real crimes

Sure, I’ll respond. We all know Ninja knows that Trump supporters are stupid, racist, sexist and whatever other negative -ist he feels like throwing into his plethora of bigoted responses. But I read his links and, unless I missed it, the politifact article not only doesn’t mention the perpetrators of the hate crimes but also presents another data set that shows that the crimes were flat from 2015 - 2017 and there are a much higher percentage of reported rather than unreported in recent years. The Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism stated that there’s been an uptick every Presidential election year since 1990.

So, with simply raw numbers of reported hate crimes without the rest of the context, I don’t know that’s enough to disprove the UPenn study. I’m sure it confirms Ninja’s bias but I don’t think there’s anything that could sway him from his stance anyways.

I posted the original study because it is an interesting counterpoint to a national narrative by what I assume is a reputable institution.

It's Trump's alma mater. Muh liberal academic ivy institutions.

^^how do you always manage to mess up quotations? it makes your post, and each subsequent response a mess for anyone to try and understand.

Regardless, the left has become much more open about their blatant racism. That and they average almost 1 fake hate crime/month. The right-wing (party that took the left's slaves away) are pretty much the same.

It’s the only way I will quote ninja so it doesn’t look like I’m talking to myself. Pisses people off but idgaf.

I wish I could like this more than once.

Instead of focusing on all this fake 'hate crime' stuff, let's get back to real issues like voter fraud, right guys? :)

Come on, how about some “real” reliable sources. And not something by it’s own admission went all the way back to 2012 to find 50 on college campuses

You can't use logic and facts to change Wayne's mind when he didn't use logic and facts to arrive at his conclusion.

He's just an angry bitter racist.

I posted the FBI data amongst other sources earlier this year but it didn't lead to much. You're either going to get fake news or hoaxes thrown back at you. We're at a real scary place right now where people can just pick and choose what to believe based on the conclusions they've already come to or the agendas they believe sources have. I'm not even saying it's all unwarranted, media has themselves to blame....It's just frustrating as hell and will only get more confusing.

Much of the FBI data on most subjects is raw and doesn’t have context. In addition, it relies on police departments voluntarily reporting, something which is interesting to say the least as not all of them report and some cook the numbers (cough Orange County cough). Most are accurate though.

I think it’s important that there is a study showing that people are increasingly reporting their hate crimes rather than not reporting them. This is a good thing. Does that mean the overall number of hate crimes is going up? Not according to the same study.

Do you dismiss the study or not? It seems to make sense but then you realize that jurisdictions have been increasing the number of protected groups and also broaden in the scope of what constitutes a hate crime. So you would think there would be an increase as more crimes can be considered hate crimes.

In the end, it’s a complicated topic and very few of us take any time to go any deeper into it than the one or two articles we read. Which means we are going to form our opinions quickly and mainly on emotion, experience, and bias. This has always been the case. The difference now is that we have forums to blast those opinions out and gather up the online mob mentality. That’s where the danger lies.

Nice ad hominem.

Can you point to a single one of those in his source that never happened or you just gonna bitch?
ace isnt like the leftists on here, so dont give him a hard time. that said, he should probably look into some of the ones posted from that website. they are reliable, whether he likes that website or not. they mostly post official stories and often do follow ups once court hearings and rulings happen.

The politifact article provides a chart for "unreported" hate crimes. Am I the only one who thinks the idea of that seems odd?

here's the funniest part, his sources are from the first page of Googling "trump hate crime"

https://www.google.com/search?q=tru...69i57j69i60.3081j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

And I looked at his little "Trump hate crime map" and one of the "hate crimes" was someone finding this flier in Dallas
DrRWXKZV4AAlfUs.jpg

so its a hate crime to report crimes?

the one in Illinois was a crazy guy named Juan Thompson who threatened to bomb a synagogue. according to his twitter, he was VERY anti Trump
juantrump10.jpg

Portland "hate crime" was a Bernie supporter named Jeremy Christian who wanted to kill Trump supporters
DA8KPbuUAAEkXSw

Arizona "hate crime" was a Motel owner reporting illegal immigrants to ICE ... who were in fact illegal immigrants.

Nevada "hate crime" was a Facebook conversation.

In other words, @NinjaKnight didn't even look at the source he posted. Congratulations, you played yourself.
