"If they did [buy their way in with FedEx $$], it's a total sign that the XII is on the short-term. It's possible that it could happen but if it does it's because several schools are headed out the door in a few years, I can promise you that. Oklahoma does not want to be in a conference with Memphis, that i can say for sure. It's not the profile of the league, it's not the academic profile of the conference members, heck it's not the foot[ball]...Memphis doesn't have hardly anything going for it...no fanbase, they've got no football tradition, they were good in football for two years, and the QB and the coach that made that possible, well one's in the NFL and one's in Blacksburg. So there's nothing to get excited about Memphis, they don't even have their own stadium, it's not who you want in your conference. If they do get in, it's because somebody wrote them a check and they said "we're going to go out of business anyway, let's just take as much money as we can get now."

Exactly! No fanbase and no football tradition. Not all that old money being thrown at the program that I keep hearing. They've been around since about 1912 and have been to 9 bowl games winning 5. Most of the bowls have been horrible and I believe they had a span of about 30 years between bowl appearances.

And the $, is just to sponsor a game that would have a sponsor anyway, so unless they're offering a ridiculous $10-20 Million above what somebody else would be offering (hence $1-2 M each) no one's going to care anyway.

Doesn't Barry Trammel write for the Oklahoman? Maybe your sources are better than his. He has probably only been on the job a week or two and hasn't had a chance to build a working relationship with the OU athletic department. Oh wait, he has been with the Oklahoman since 1991. His sources might be better than yours.

That being said, he didn't say Memphis wouldn't get in. Basically he said they could get in, but OU and Texas and probably a few others would be out the door very soon. Glass half full/empty.

To be fair, these school could be out the door, regardless of who get's in. I don't think this helps/hurts anyone, frankly.

Just like you PussyPride! Must be nice to have some company. But I guess you don't have any company on the Pussy's Lair board because you keep coming here for someone to talk to.

This is so funny. We are like a bunch of lions fighting and playing with each other all week and we were just thrown a baby cow (tiger_pride76) with barbecue sauce on it. Just waiting for the right opportunity to pounce.

Oh really?!?!? And just how are your "sources" better than Trammel, a person who is more well connected in Oklahoma college athletics than any other person? Oklahoma President Boren has already stated that academics are important. Exactly how does a school that is so bad they are not even listed in the US news rankings fit into that criteria? Answer...they don't!

Probably the same sources that told PussyPride that this was going to be a done deal the 1st week of June. He "knows" someone that is "clued in".

We will see who the puppet is here shortly.

Let's put this into perspective. The Big 12 dawdled while the ACC were being raided and the Big 12 got raided of four of their best member schools. Meanwhile, the ACC defended itself perfectly by grabbing up the cream of the crop from the old Big East and protected itself from any further raids.

That left the Big 12 in the desperate situation of 10 teams confined to a very narrow region of longitudes except newbie WV stranded by itself. No West Coast, Mountain, and just one isolated, rural school school east of the Mississippi. With Texas permanently blocking the best option, BYU, the Big 12's remaining choices reflect metro areas cultures, an unappealing shock to a conference of mostly pampered, non-diverse "residential" land-grant universities.
