B12 fla article

I read something yesterday someplace that the owner of the Houston Texans supports B12 expansion, but only if it includes Houston. It's all a smoke screen. They aren't going to expand. Why should they give up all that money?

First obstacle they need to overcome is to actually find a team within the conference that wants to be in the conference. Like many others say on here, just wait, let the SEC, Big 10 etc gain more and more money until they see the advantage to go to 16 then poof Big East 2.0 is gone. They're giving up on the Big 12 and are just treading water til somebody better comes along. Save your money commish, you,'ll be out of a job soon.

Yes, then the B12 will be TCU, Baylor, Iowa State, Texas Tech and maybe Kansas State. Everyone else will be gone. UT, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State.

Iowa is B1G, not B12.

Take TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech and Iowa St and add UCF, USF, Cincinnati, Memphis, UCONN, Houston, ECU and Navy and you have a much better conference than the American.

Without $20 million and p5 status it wouldn't be much of a jump.

No one knows what a conference made up of those teams would get for a TV contract. But even if it is only $4M per team (which I think is pretty low considering the teams involved), that's double what we are getting now. And those teams are much better than the teams in the American conference, so we would still be in the best of the "non-power" conferences.

Of course it wouldn't be what we were hoping for, but it would still be better than where we are.

It is, but it will still be a step down from the big leagues. Our only hope for the big time is that the B12 sticks together and we are invited.

Actually, a couple year delay before B-12 expansion is in our interest. By, that time, we'll have turned around our dismal performance and horrid attendance. As I've said all along, the best expansion would be adding Memphis, Cincinnati, UConn, and UCF. That gives the Big12 northern and southern divisions.

On the surface, it seems unlikely the B12 would add four. The contractual obligation of the TV partners (Fox & ESPN) to pro-rata increase the B12 TV contract for a two school expansion at the same per team rate the current B12 schools receive makes that much more likely. If the B12 adds four teams, the second two teams added will not generate the same increase in TV value and therefore the current B12 schools would receive less money per year than they do currently..

It's all about the money...

Yes, but this is 3-dimensional chess. Four team expansion diminishes the leverage of the Oklahoma schools to leave. When Mizzou and A&M pulled out, it put them short of a tourney even with W. Virginia on board. With 14, the threat is less powerful because they still have their tourney, and the extra game (and national publicity) for bowl consideration (or did the NCAA decide they could do it with 10?). As important, WVU needs games nearer home; a 12-team division still has them and any other eastern team playing most games in Tex/OK. Similarly, the Big12 needs to throw off its old Southwest Conference regional rep and become national like all but the PAC.
