"UCF Sports Today with Danny Barrett" earlier earlier this afternoon on My65. I just watched it on the DVR.

Opening comment about the Tulsa game:

"We wanted to come out and compete from the beginning. Win each quarter. If we could do that, we'd have the opportunity to win the game at the end. You saw some energy on the sideline you hadn't seen in a while. In that third quarter, we made some adjustments at halftime. Defense, special teams got some turnovers. The energy was there. It's just putting it together for 60 minutes."

On keeping Tulsa in check from a passing standpoint:

"They came in ninth in the country in total offense. They like to throw the ball around. We took out WR Keyarris Garrett and kept QB Dane Evans in check for the most part. We gave up too many yards on the ground and a couple on some big runs. We didn't have guys in the right position."

On the turnovers UCF forced and then the turnovers they gave up:

"You look at three turnovers we committed led to 17 points. You take that off the board, who knows what happens at the end of the day. Before the half, defense did a great job keeping them to a field goal. We dropped the punt, which was huge momentum for them. And the interception that led to a touchdown. We can't shoot ourselves in the foot."

First half highlights are shown. Tristan Payton making plays, including the strip after the interception.

"Great effort on Tristan's part. He's on the opposite side of the field. Great effort. Second effort. To come up with the strip, reminds of me of the Tulane game which went the other way."

On first half thoughts:

"We wanted to come out and win the first and second quarter. With two seconds left in the first quarter, it's 7-3 and they score a touchdown. In the second quarter, minor mistakes here and there. Couldn't get into a groove offensively. Thought the defense played hard. We made some adjustments and let's make something happen in the third quarter. Straubel steps in front of a pass and then things started going our way."

The OIA "Taking Flight" Great Pass Play was the Rocky Ross TD in the 2008 USF game.

On what he said at halftime:

"Let's not feel sorry for ourselves, fellas. We will not shut it down. The coaches made some adjustments and we got back in the football game."

What changed with the offense?

"Took advantage of field position. We started to mix in our play-action game and went over the top a little bit. Let the WRs make plays. Taj McGowan came in and gave us some speed off the edge."

On Nick Patti:

"Versatile young man. We wanted to do more with the Wild Knight package, make them defend all 11 players. Nick got the first completion of the day. In his other games he'd only run so we wanted them to respect his ability to pass."

Second half highlights were shown. Tre'Quan Smith had 7 catches for 131 yards receiving.

"He made some great catches, especially early in the game. Made that great catch near our sideline, hurt his ankle and went back in. He's become very reliable in the passing game. Excellent touchdown reception as well. He's coming into his own and rightfully so. He's developing into a go-to guy for us."

On the OL's improvement:

"I thought we were more than adequate today, just a couple situations I was disappointed in. Three-man rush, we should never give up a sack. A couple penalties hurt us on third and short, twice that happened. Overall I thought they did a good job. Palmer came in and replaced Hudanick after he got injured. We need to let those guys gel."

On Holman:

"I thought he was on point for the most part all day. A couple throws got away from him, but some of the WRs depth on some routes. The hand is healing up. He had a little ankle injury during the week, so I thought he responded well."

What he told the team afterward:

"We came here to win a game. We're done on the road. In this bye week, we need to get healthy, get back to work later in the week and let's finish strong. These two games are very key for us in how we move forward. We did some good things, but we can't afford to beat ourselves. Those turnovers hurt."

The "Play of the Game" was the Holman TD to Tre'Quan Smith.

"We've been working on those type of situations, get in there trying to throw the fade or back shoulder throw. Thought Justin threw it in the perfect location. Tre'Quan all hands. No hesitation. Made a clean catch. Outstanding reception."

More on Tre'Quan:

"Coming into this year, the expectations were high for him. He had the injury bug more than anything else. The key was after that first reception, landed funny and injured his ankle, and he came back into the game and did an even better job. That says a lot about how he's maturing as a football player."

Video feature about the team captains.

LB Domenic Spencer had 20 tackles.

"He's one of those leaders on the defense that will do whatever is necessary to make sure guys are in the right place. He's been the quarterback of our defense. 20 tackles. He's doing what he's supposed to do. He's only going to get better these last two ballgames."

Long 10 weeks, finally a bye week.

"It's coming at a great time for us. 10 straight games with six road games, and they were back-to-back road games. We'll take a couple days off the field, but still get in the weight room. We'll get back later in the week working on base fundamentals and some combinations personnel wise to help us out to give us a chance to win."

On the approach in the last two games:

"If we can bottle up what we did in the third quarter we can easily win these two games. It's a mindset. When you put your mind to get something done, you can get it done. We built up energy on the sideline. I haven't seen that in quite some time. That will be the mindset when we get back later in the week."

On Barrett's speech to the team going into the fourth quarter:

"We won the third quarter. Let's go out and win the fourth quarter. We were right there. You could feel the energy in the huddle. They were all in. You could see it in their eyes they wanted to get it done. We had a turnover and let them in the end zone too quick. We've got to learn from that."

On ECU:

"They're playing tonight vs. South Florida. I want to see some of that. They're always well coached. Ruffin is a good coach. Good skill on offense. Defensively, they do just enough to keep you off-balanced with a 30 front. Last year we got off to a good start and made it excting in the end. This year hopefully it won't be like that and we come up with our first victory of the season."
