First game starts at 8:00 in 30 minutes.

Looks like bj Taylor, Matt Williams, and tacko are all out for the week. Should be interesting to see who steps up at the guard positions. We have to replace 3 starters from last year: BJ, Brandon Goodwin, and kasey Wilson.
Will be fun to see a lot of new faces and lineups. I do wish we had our full roster though.

We HAVE to stop letting teams get second chance opportunities... I watched for about 4 possessions and they got offensive rebounds on 2 of them. It's a learning experience, I know, but let's get control of that early on. Truthfully, that was the part of our last season that got me boiling the most.

Still not seeing what I want to see. Not seeing the entry passes to the low post. Not seeing the pass and kick back plays. We have 3 point shooters. Pass it in and kick it back. Not seeing rotation on offense. Not seeing shut down defense. A club team stayed way too close tonight.

Have you talked to Donnie about it? If not, shame on you.

I agree SPT!

I think there were some first game jitters from the new guys. Tank shot 2-10, AJ Davis was 5-17, and Chance 0-5. Overall our team shot 29-87 33%.

I am happy with the win and I actually think the team did well sharing the ball. We had 21 assist and 16 TO's. We only had more than 21 assist ONCE last year so I am pleased with how the team shared the ball. However, I am worried about our defense and transition game. We won the rebounding game 65-41 but they had 12 2nd chance points and we only had 8. They had 14 fast break points while we had 4!

The good news is that we won by 10 without BJ, Matt, and Tacko. We passed well and rebounded (against a shorter team). Davis and Henriquez both had double doubles. Daiquan stepped up and had 14 pts, 7 reb, 7 ast, 4 stl. We tried many different lineups and personnel so it's expected not to play perfect. Yes there are things to work on but this is early in the season.

I thought we really struggled on the glass too when I watched the game live. I saw them get many easy (too easy) put-backs. Well, I watched the game again and counted the offensive rebounds. We rebounded really well we just didn't get the easy put-backs like they did. They also had 3 airballs as easy points when we boxed out in the lane, they just had a guard run the baseline. Here are the offensive rebounds:
UCF- 27
Real Deal Shockers- 13
We did well on the offensive and defensive glass!

After getting to watch the game again, I thought we passed the ball real well. We used the post at the top of the key for many passes and when we did go down low it was usually to Justin. We would have scored more but we didn't finish well (and were fouled a lot!). Our guards also got a lot of penetration into the lane and passed out or dished down inside well.

The international rules also may have effected us. The 24-second clock can really change the offense. They only played zone on us and I noticed we stepped on the out-of-bounds line 3 times around the perimeter. This could have been due to the extended 3-point line.

UCF played with International rules and will do so for the remaining 2 games: 10 min quarters, 24 sec clock, International 3 pt line (22' 1"), compared to college's 21' 9".

With 24 sec clock, it helped push Adonys to act quicker and being without BJ, that stopped second guessing.

Bummer that Matt and BJ couldn't go but it help give badly needed mins to others.

Here's the write up of game and box score.

While offensive rebounding was strong...glad some had good nights at the FT line (Shaheed 7-8, AJ 3-4, Walker 3-4, Adonys 2-2).

Still want to see Adonys go to the hole more and shot more 2 pt attempts. He is the best FT shooter on team so the more he gets to the line the better (plus helps get UCF in the bonus where he should be very valuable).

Adonys was good from downtown 5-13, but he was also 5-7 from 2 pt land.

I wouldn't quite say that he needs to shoot more. He took 20 shots last night, which lead the team. He had 20 shots, when last year he never had more than 14! (Last year when he shot more than 11 times the team was 0-3.)Last night, he stepped up and he was the go-to guy. Could he have taken more shots? Yeah, but he passed and ended up with 5 assist.

He is the leader of this team and he could be the leading scorer every night, but it looks like he wants to be a team player and allow others to score and have a role during the "exhibition". He knows how he can perform but he wants to see how the freshman and transfers play. I believe that Adonys is ready to play this year and will step up when needed.
We have plenty of people to drive to the hole. Leave Adonys on the perimeter to shoot and save his legs and let Daiquan, Tank, AJ, or BJ to slash. Sure have him drive in and create his shot occasionally, but his role is to shoot.

He definitely seems more confident as last year, his main problem last season was he wasn't getting shots off at the beginning of games...as he waited way too long for the game to come to him because in some games, he had zero or so few shots in first 5-10 mins of the game.

Without BJ in line-up, that actually help put the ball in Adonys hands a little more and since he is the best shooter on the team, I would have no problem with him getting 20 shots off per game...as with more shots, especially 2 pt attempts, that will also help him get to the FT line...something he needs to do as he is the best FT shooter on the team too...(and just shooting 3's, hard to get to FT line).

Just being a threat to shot a 2 pt attempt and/or dribble/drive/dish, that will open up 3 pt attempts for him.

Adonys can't be statue out on the 3 pt line...he is too good of a player to do only that (i.e. good 2 pt shot, great FT shooter, etc...).

The only thing he needs to worry about is teaching how to box out and play better team defense. If he can't accomplish those 2 things THIS YEAR, he's out. I've coached 15 years high school basketball and UCF's defense last year was among the worst I've ever seen.

Send this entire thread to Donnie. I'm sure he would find all of our comments enlightening.

I'm not your secretary. And I don't use others opinion since I'm very capable of forming my own and telling the coaches in person.

I would let Adonys shoot it everytime he touched the ball
