Probably busy talking to his 13 cats…telling them about how smart he is and how wrong and dumb they are. Telling them that if they only just went to watch practices and ate lunch with George O’Leary, then they would know everything.Where's @UCFhonors?

Battles coming back is great for WBB. She's a leader. And if the others, who can, decide to come back the WBB team should continue its run next year. Green coming back is good for MBB...but he's one dimensional and already a number of others have decided to transfer from the program. MBB is a big ??? at best. And it goes without saying that the product you put on the court will drive attendance and ??? don't fill up seats.
that's exactly what happened. If Darin Green and/or Darius Johnson enter the portal I don't see how Dawkins survives. He went through an entire cycle with his players and accomplished very little, finishing in the bottom half of the conference three consecutive years. Now he's starting over the year before entering one of the best basketball conferences in the country. I could see Mohajir saying "if we're looking at a complete rebuild anyway, why not start fresh with someone else?" JD hasn't done a bad job, but the program isn't moving forward. And next season could be a dumpster fire.
In retrospect I think Mahan and Perry coming back this season had unintended negative consequences. It's easy to say now, of course, because we know their returns didn't result in a strong conference finish or tourney run. But how many more shots would Adams, Walker, and Johnson have gotten if those two hadn't returned? Would the young players have developed more? Hard to say because Johnny's high school recruits have never done much since he's gotten here, but the dynamic going into this offseason would have been much different.
8 years at Stanford and Johnny never got them to the tournament. He was fired by Stanford. What a waste. He's not a good coach.......Donnie Jones #2If Darin Green and/or Darius Johnson enter the portal I don't see how Dawkins survives. Yeah he did. Once I believe.8 years at Stanford and Johnny never got them to the tournament. He was fired by Stanford. What a waste. He's not a good coach.......Donnie Jones #2
Actually you're correct PositYYeah did. Once I believe.
I think his 1985 game isn’t translating to today’s kids. He’s had some decent recruits but the system seems outdated. He can’t get a big that can play his offense. Guard play is ok but very little creating offense and ball movement. People are saying one of the twins he got is real good but they said same about Adams. We’ll see.In basketball you just need to get 2 blue-chip (or close to it) recruits to turn things around, and they don't have to be in the same recruiting class. Dawkins hasn't hit on any in 6 years, which is why the program is stagnant. UCF went to the second round of the NCAA in 2019 because Donnie Jones scored Tacko Fall and B.J. Taylor. You have to get those transformative players out of high school. This will become more true in the Big 12. A secondary problem is that the recruits JD is getting don't seem to be developing within the program after they arrive. But it has to start with bringing in talent.
He needs to traveling the world to get/recruit another Tacko Fall! I've seen Johnny make adjustments that work. The only move he resorts to is a have a really good guard charge the lane and pass off or draw a foul. I've seen this bring us back. Who knows :-(I think his 1985 game isn’t translating to today’s kids. He’s had some decent recruits but the system seems outdated. He can’t get a big that can play his offense. Hopefully we will have a high impact Freshman coming in. I try not to get my hopes up though. With this much turnover I'm not sure there will be much incentive to bring Dawkins back for a final season in the AAC if he isn't the guy long-term anyway. The first cycle with his own players (not Donnie recruits) produced nothing, now it's a clean slate.
Players who started the 2021-22 season on the roster but won't be back next season:
Darin Green, Jr. -- Transfer
Isaiah Adams -- Transfer
Dre Fuller, Jr. -- Transfer
Ed'Xavior Rhodes -- Transfer
Tony Johnson, Jr. -- Left Program
Sean Mobley -- Left Program
Darius Perry -- Graduation
Brandon Mahan -- Graduation
Cheikh Diong -- Graduation
Who's left (for now):
Darius Johnson
C.J. Walker
Jamille Reynolds
Tyem Freeman
P.J. Edwards
The turnover this year is pretty staggering - Don’t recall anything like it before (partially due to new transfer rules, I’m sure). Anyone know if any other schools are in the same boat this year? With this much turnover I'm not sure there will be much incentive to bring Dawkins back for a final season in the AAC if he isn't the guy long-term anyway. With Free Agency now the norm in college hoops...this how most teams will build their rosters: thru the transfer portal.Under Dawkins, how many players have played 4 years at UCF? 3 Years? Even 2 years. Seems like the roster is generally a revolving door, recruited out of HS leave after a year or two, and players that transfer to UCF play for a year or two because that is all they had for eligibility.
We didn’t lose the coach. That’s the problem.St. Peter's lost their coach and like 3-4 players. I expect this to be the norm.
That said I expect more out of Dawkins.
All these guys in portal and none in top 118 players in portal. That’s really bad. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...e-basketball-transfer-rankings-2022-23-seasonWith this much turnover I'm not sure there will be much incentive to bring Dawkins back for a final season in the AAC if he isn't the guy long-term anyway.
