The b12 will become theBig east 2.0 and wither on the vine. The perception of the b12 has already started to diminish nationally (they are #5 of the p5 already) and that trend will continue. The gap between the haves (SEC and B1G) and everybody else will continue to widen. Exponentially with the G5.
Is there a link to support your argument that the Big 12 is #5 of the power conferences and that the Big 12 will become the Big East 2.0? I think UCF's president would disagree with you:
I would agree with you if Texas stays in the B12 the conference will never be in jeopardy.
I think his assumption is based on the apparent dysfunctional nature of the B12, the fact that the B12 seems to be at a disadvantage relative to other conferences concerning getting into the playoff, the increasing revenue and perception gap between the B12 and the SEC/B1G, and the continuing concern that Texas appears to be all about themselves and could leave the conference.
Adding UConn, ECU, UCF, USF, Cincinnati and Memphis will definitely improve the conference.PS, you can't really say adding teams will definitely improve the conference, but at least it might. You can definitely say standing pat will just bring this discussion up EVERY DAMN YEAR.
I see what you're saying BUT, anytime is a good time for UCF to go to a P-5. I mean an invite now means we'll still go up up and up. If your a smart business person, you would see what the Florida market of Tampa and Orlando can do to make you a SUPER conference. It's called planning for the future!Good.
Coming off an 0-12 season, this is the worst possible time for expansion from UCF's perspective. That we're still in the discussion after that abortion of a season speaks to the enormous institutional advantages that UCF has over other candidates.
UCF's only disadvantage is youth. If we assume there are only a handful of seats left at the table then we want this process to be drug out as long as possible. The current Big XII media deal runs until 2025. Let UT and OU bicker for the next 9 years and leave the AAC alone.
I agree...Nothing new here. He's just solidifying the point the network is key. He might also be trying to turn down the spin cycle. Talking heads all chime in.This isn't new information. No network, no expansion.
Correct except for USF and ECU. No upside to adding two schools in overlapping metro markets. ECU adds no major market, incomes too low, also, for cable advertisers to allow (and the corporate boycott of NC comes at the wrong time for poor ECU).Adding UConn, ECU, UCF, USF, Cincinnati and Memphis will definitely improve the conference.
