"If you want to be a national brand, you got to be more than two sports programs," Foley on all of the sports.

I couldn't agree more.

How exactly would you define a "national brand"? Is it just that people outside of your regional market recognize your name and logo and can place it to your institution?

If you are elite in FB or BB you will have a national brand. If not you don't. water polo does not matter. Oregon is a perfect example. 15 years ago they were an afterthought. now because of FB they are not. No one cares what their bowling team does.

Are the viewing numbers for any other sport anywhere close to FB or BB? I'd bet the "National Brand" sports fan could name the national champs in FB and BB for a decade back, but might get lucky in naming 1 or 2 NCAA baseball champ, or 1 softball. That quote sounds more like someone who's retiring from an AD position who's trying to say he's put as much effort into all the other sports as he has into the football program. He's dreaming if he believes that UF became a brand because of anything other than football.

You have to admit Foley did an amazing job at UF. National champs in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Volleyball I think several others. Baseball has been in Omaha multiple times. The guy really put Florida athletics on the map. It helps to have 10s of millions of dollars in booster money every year. I would say and an overall athletics program UF is close to the top.

SCKnight understands what Foley was trying to say. If only football and basketball matter then why not shut every other sports program down. Why bother. I mean you could save a shit load of money if you had men's and woman's football and basketball. That's it.

I would argue the top sports programs across the country are very good across the board.

Title IX, but yeah, why not cull a bunch of other male sports?

Gonzaga, Georgetown and Villanova has done pretty well with one sport but who am i to argue with a winner like Jeremy Foley.

If the above quote came out of Danny White's mouth you guys would be saying he's a god and would want a bronze statue made of him. If all you want is to be known for one sport, then close the rest of them down. Why waste resources.

It is such a shame we don't get to have a men's track team. Join meets wouldn't add to costs much. But Title IX would then force us to add even more women's teams. I'm not asking for a crew team, what with all the gators around. But a gymnastics team -- men and women -- would attract lots of interest, too.

Adding another varsity scholarship sport (i.e. like Men's track), would mean UCF would have to add another women's varsity sport to keep the Title IX scholarship ratio's in tact.

Sure, it would be great to have a lot of new sports, both men's and women's, but even all the current programs are not close to being funded by donations/ticket sales alone...so UCF is doing the right thing by trying to fund current sports at higher levels (especially marquee programs like Football and Men's Basketball).

The NCAA continues to deny cheerleading as a sport. That would change a lot and probably lead to the dropping of a lot of female sports around the country. Which is probably the real reason behind it being denied.

We need a track and swimming/diving team.
