From Aresco - “The best thing about winning nonconference games is that your conference games mean more. Those games get more respect. We have big matchups within the conference that will be seen.”

This year, the American is 18-16 overall against FBS competition with a few more non-conference games still to play. But more notable is the fact that AAC teams are a combined 10-1 against the Mountain West, Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference and the Sun Belt.

The league is 4-3 against the ACC including Cincinnati’s win against Miami, Houston’s win at Louisville and East Carolina beating Virginia Tech. (Two of the three losses belong to struggling Tulane). Temple also scored a massive early victory against Penn State (also 7-12 versus the P5).

I'm glad someone like Commissioner Aresco understands.

Guess who's has the 1 loss for the conference against the other G5 teams??....Sorry, I had to join in on the pity party a little early today. I'll see myself out.

Its still pretty impressive. Houston still has another SEC team left on their schedule. Temple vs Norte Dame has potential to be a matchup of Top 25 teams. Memphis vs Houston too. So does Temple vs Memphis. Unless the Top 25 teams have a massive collapse we can see a Top 25 championship game. I'd rather see that then last year when UCF couldnt sniff the Top 25 because of early losses.

Honestly, I like the direction that The American is headed as I feel the atmosphere of competetiveness is on the up and up. While the name dosen't carry the prestige that the old Big East did, at the same time this conference is nothing like the Big East was. The managment as a whole is organized and makes decisions that are good for all the member schools and not just the seniority half ala the basketball schools.

I can foresee a situation where The American can keep this positive momentum moving forward and consistently have teams in the top 25. To make a long story short, should the B12 decide not to expand (which I'm not sold that they want to anytime soon) our current conference situation where we are isn't as bleak as many believe.
