Formaldehyde is used to inactivate virus in vaccines out of the body. As with all disinfectants it is for surface use and only causes harm inside the body. Formaldehyde is in fact a toxin at high enough levels. The amount in a vaccine is negligible (2% of that found in a pear) and not enough to cause harm. It doesn’t provide any benefit in vivo however. No disinfectant does.
