Sri Lanka is 10 years removed from a bloody civil war between their minority Muslim Tamil population and the majority Buddhist Sinhalese. Their economy and tourism industry has been growing at an exponential pace during this peaceful time. This is a major setback for the entire country that still has ripe wounds from the past. Anyone who is dumb enough to chalk this up to the old "Muslims = bad, Christians = good" is an asshead.

When it comes to the issue of homosexuality, all of our major religions have a heck of a lot of growing up to do.
Given what scientific research has revealed to us about human sexuality in just the last 45 years, it's no surprise that the world's view of homosexuality have been changing dramatically. Given the conservative nature of most religions, it's going to take years for many of them -- including my own Christian faith -- to catch up with the times.
As we've previously discussed here, my own worldwide United Methodist Church is on a path of splitting up over the issue because our African and conservative, deep South churches still believe it's a horrible sin. FYI, there are 38 African countries who still consider it a crime--including three who consider it a capital crime (two where the religion is predominantly Muslim and one predominantly Christian.)
