I had ECU down as an L in my preseason expectations. I think a bowl game is all but a given now. Incredible.

Now the question is...do we get an ACC team on st Pete, or do we get one of the crappy MAC bowl games?

Just for the sake of argument, what would 11-2 get us?

Right now? The Cup-O-Ramen Bowl....

We need a few more wins and but more seasoning before we are anywhere close to Bowl ready.

One game at a time.

Just hilarious the amount of people who think that a fan thinking ahead has anything to do with what happens on the field. I agree with the original post- inevitable. Hell, I say the bizarre happens and we win out, 11-2 and get the name bowl game. And guess what, that has no effect on who we play. Hell I say we only lose 1 game next year. And that has nothing to do with what happens on the field. Fans can look ahead. They don't play the game.

I agree, it's one game at a time. But "IF" we are lucky enough to become bowl eligible, I would expect to be invited to the Cure Bowl vs a Sun Belt team.

I think we only play 12 games
13 if we win the division. See, then the division champs play each other just like we did back in the C-USA. In fact, ESPN's power rating's predict number of games (excluding bowls and national playoffs). Thus, Houston is predicted to play 12.8 games, so that's saying they have an 80% chance of winning their division. So does USF.

True. My bad. Forgot about the new championship game

GOL Statue Bowl.....

What was nice about the win is that we only have 3 more road AAC games and only 3 more wins to become bowl eligible.

I would always prefer a match up with a P5 team. For the time being, though, I'm still trying to wipe the grin off my face due to the fact that we can play with anyone in our conference again soon after o-fer.

Every year, the goal was always to win the conference. Even before the 0-12 season last year, that was the stated objective. What's so different about saying that this season, too?

Everything flows from at least playing in the conference championship game. Hardware is always the goal. Being 6-6 and playing in some schlub bowl is typically a reward for the players but it doesn't say much for your program. That said, in our case after going 0-fer, anything would be a big bonus for the mindset of the players going into next season. They've got to taste success to build on it.

Bowls are essential because the NCAA permits half the FBS teams in bowls to have lots of authorized extra practice sessions (as well as an extra game); this develops your underclassmen and junior, a major edge the following season. It also lets potential recruits watch your team play (often the only game on).

OTOH, the top bowls pay out 95% of all bowl money. The lesser bowls are big money losers (2 to 3 million, depending on the travel cost and how many players, staff, and hangers on you decide to "reward"). Teams that "don't travel well" must buy up tons of tickets, too.

I'll take any bowl at this point, and i do think that we will be bowling, but the Hawaii bowl, Bahamas bowl are tough ones for our fans to get to. The St. Pete Bowl is just held at a bad stadium.

It would be nice to play a P5 school, even if they were mediocre.

Boca Raton Bowl at FAU... is that an AAC bowl? If we are a 6 win team. I wouldn't be surprised if we go that way. Get some south Florida recruiting

Are there 3 more wins on schedule?

Tulane winnable
Temple tough
@UCONN winnable
@Houston not-winnable
Cinci winnable
Tulsa winnable
@USF tough

I would disagree and say it is far from a given. There are good teams we have to play. Nothing is a given this year :)

I think the mindset this year is that the goal is to win all games and not just the conference games. Our previous coach always made it seem as if nothing else mattered. If you lost OoC games it was no big deal. Only losses to conference mattered. If this was goal for the season, then why play anything other than conference games.

All games matter to most fans. We want to be not just competitive, we want to win! All games! Especially the P5 games!

They will decline going to any bowl game and just go home if they don't like the bowl. It's been done before

When was the last time they've done that? In the last 8 years they have played in the Hawaii Bowl. The played in the Sun Bowl. They've played in the Music Bowl. They've played in the Pinstripe Bowl.
