As Scott Frost put it, UCF "got nastier" with the addition of Brandon Moore on Sunday night.
The Sanford (Fla.) Seminiole cornerback was the third local player to commit to the Knights in a 24-hour span, joining Mainland's Adrian Killins and Dr. Phillips' Jaquarius Bargnare, both offensive athletes.
Of course, Frost can't comment about recruits directly. But it's clear his tweet, posted a couple minutes before Moore made his pledge public, referenced the Seminole two-way star.
Moore always had his eye on the hometown team, but he's even surprised at how quickly everything came together.
"On Saturday morning Coach Frost called me," Moore said. "I was asleep when he called so I had to call him back. He said, 'Hey, is this Brandon? Okay, let me get straight to the point. I really like your game. You're what we're looking for here. A big corner that can still run and also play the pass. We want you here at UCF. What will it take for you to commit?' I said, 'I need to take a tour of the campus.' We talked again earlier (on Sunday) and he said, 'I really want to see you. Can you come down today?'"
From there, Moore and his mother jumped in the car to make the short drive to East Orlando. Upon arrival, he bumped into Bargnare who had committed moments before.
"I know him," Moore said. "We've played against each other and ran track."
Frost wanted Moore to be his first defensive pledge.
"He said, 'You're what we're looking for. You're what we need. You can come in and make an impact. We're gonna be rolling. Can you handle it? Are you ready to commit?' I was like, 'Yeah!'
"The thing is, UCF and I already had a relationship. Always stayed in touch, but didn't really offer. I love UCF. I've been loving UCF. I wanted to stay home. It wasn't much to think about, it was just a matter of me getting an offer.
"I'm super excited. I can't wait to get after it. He's from Oregon so we're gonna play fast and we're gonna look good. We're gonna perform."
The bulk of Moore's hour-and-a-half visit was spent talking to coaches; he'll return in January for an official visit and more thorough look at the rest of the campus.
Other offers include USF, Bowling Green (where his brother plays), Kent State, Louisville, Tulane and Western Michigan. Of those, Moore called USF the "main one" and says that while he considers himself "solid" with the Knights, if he does take another visit it will be to see the Bulls.
"I'm happy, my family is happy, everybody is just happy right now," Moore said.
