This is in no way shocking since the Democratic party has largely become nothing more than a foreign lobbying agent of the Mexican Government, but hilariously pathetic all the same.

It will cost them a whopping $3B this year alone and this number will explode once illegal aliens from neighboring states realize that the taxpayer funded gravy train is turned on in CA.

Luckily, we will not be asked to subsidize this CA nonsense since Federal Medicaid is barred from paying for illegal aliens.

I'm sure the few people in CA who aren't part of the fringe left are thrilled that their Medi-Cal premiums are going to skyrocket to pay for people here illegally.

Detroit was America's 4th largest city in 1950. They were living the high life on the auto industry and all of the ancillary businesses around it. It now has less than half the amount of people it had then. It took 6 decades of mismanagement to finally drive that city into the dumps.

California has been riding the tech boom hard. Millionaires and Billionaires galore. Meanwhile all of the politicians are rolling in the money via taxes and spending it on a lot of nonsense. People are now leaving California in high numbers. in 2017, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona had a net gain of domestic immigrants while California had a net loss. Currently, it's mostly lower income but the middle income folks are starting to leave as well. Once the "leavers" hit a critical mass, California is SCREWED.

How much was their budget surplus this year?

It was estimated to be $6.1B. Brown wanted to put it away in a rainy day fund; D's in the legislature couldn't resist touching it and hence we have this new bill that will cost at least $3B this year- with the actually total most likely being closer to $4B.

There's also the point that any surplus is really a myth given that California is running a $168B pension shortfall:

lol at comparing Detroit to California. There are certain intangibles that will always make it an attractive place to be

i agree that california will always be desirable with the weather and location, but there will be a breaking point and we might see that coming in a few years

i mean they have a massive homeless problem going on but this definitely needed to be worked on....

Not if you can't afford to live there .... or it becomes a miserable place to live. Keep in mind, NYC, Chicago, and Philly are 3 of the most populous cities in the country. None have the weather or the beaches that California has, yet people still live there. The weather and ocean only gets you so far.
