cannot figure out Donnie's coaching strategy?

Played fairly well overall especially since we lost BJ for like 60% of the game and Adony's probably for 30% of the game. Game was much closer from the final score. I don't think there is anything much that would have made a difference outside of missing those open 3's today. We should have a pretty solid lineup coming into UCF next year with McBride being a senior and hopefully more conditioned to get more mins. Then add the freshman duo that will only improve. I think by next year some of these close games against the top half the of league might turn into W's.

Yeah, the injuries to Henriquez and Taylor didn't help. Taylor didn't play at all in the second half. Henriquez was able to come back after a UC player committed a flagrant foul on him, but I think that injured leg probably impacted him for the rest of the game. He got up limping right after the foul was committed. I was impressed with the team's effort today; I thought we played better on the defensive end. Unfortunately, turnovers continued to be a problem today. There were also times when it seemed like we were lost offensively, as if we didn't know who to go to for a basket. Coach Jones will have to correct these issues if we're going to end the regular season on a strong note.

First, McBride will be a Junior next year.

Second, Donnie will have 15 players on scholarship next year unlike the 11 he has now. So take the current roster, remove Kasey Wilson and add Tankersley, Fall, Brown and McSpadden. We are going press and press hard for 40 minutes. 15 guys on scholarship. Here is the future.

Add Matt and AJ Davis. NCAA limit for scholarships is 13. Somebody will have to go.

I'm not a fitness expxert, but it looks like McBride needs to lose about 40 pounds and increase his endurance this summer to have the opportunity to be an elite player.

I really think he can be elite. He seems to have a great touch around the rim, can hit mid-range shots, and amazingly enough (especially for a big man) has a REALLY sweet looking foul shot that he makes at a very high percentage.

LOL. I think the most repeated phrase under DJ has been "I can't wait until next year." Eventually the optimism runs out folks...

It's no secret that DJ has always wanted to press nonstop. He has never had a team deep enough to do that. Next year he will. Our players are in every game this year and eventually will get over the hump. Honestly, I thought we would finish dead last in this conference.

you only need 9 guys subbing every 2 minutes or so to press...but you cant have guys like Kasey that arent able to close quickly and trap ball..you have to recruit quick , athletic guys at every position...if we had better outside shooters we could play small ball and full court trap...but he isnt recruiting those guys.

Ok here's a huge question. ..why cant we inbound the ball on a press? When I coached we ran a basic required play called a stack.....which was very easy to run. Frustrated

we did stack too and broke when inbounder slapped ball...but when the other teams have superior athletes, doesnt matter what u run.

very true Pitt. I mean long basketball players that are very athletic and tall, with motorskill will outperform mediocre coaching every time.
