Being the summer right before/during training camps opening, that means I’m watching a lot of old games on YouTube.

This is the classic Fifth Down Game in 1990, which ended up changing the national title race.

Colorado is driving late to score a touchdown to win. Twice long gains are cut to shorter plays because thr Colorado players slip on the Mizzou artificial turf. Colorado has a first down inside the ten yard line. They spike the ball on 1st to stop the clock. Then run to the one yard line, and call time out. On 3rd down they run the ball and are stopped. Then thr QB spikes the ball on 4th down. But no official notices it is 4th down. They run an option play on fifth down to score and win the game.

They go on to split the national title with Georgia Tech.

You can skip to the 3 hour mark in the linked game video below.

Side notes, that is former KC Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy as the Star tailback for Colorado.

Three future NFL head coaches are on the Mizzou staff in this game…..including Andy Reid.

Georgia Tech beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Citrus Bowl to clinch their share of the split national tile with George O’Leary as the defensive coordinator.

Colorado almost lost to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl on a last second punt return by Rocket Ismail……but the play was called back due to clipping.
