FSU and ND getting higher is to try and prop up Clemson. I doubt Clemson gets in anyway. Too many teams have to lose.
Colley Matrix has us at #20 and ND at #18. FSU is at #23.
Troy is at #21.
Coastal Carolina is at #16.

Yep the fix is in, but we have to remember this is not a real playoff, just an invitational like those pre-season basketball tournaments.
Hard for me to get too upset about rankings when:
1. We have 2 losses
2. If we win our next 3 games we accomplish our two biggest goals of the season. Win the Conference Championship, play in a NY6 bowl.

Good attitude. My general feeling as well. Also, good- the kids need to stay humble, not think they are the best and overlook the games ahead of them.
Ranking at this point doesn't matter unless we drop a game vs Navy or USF. We are the highest rated G5. Road to the Cotton Bowl is clear. My honest opinion is we lost to 2 really terrible teams so ill take #20.
If this was 2017 with our losses we would be lucky to be ranked. usf had one loss Black Friday that year and was not ranked. I’m guessing an 8-2 G5 school has never ranked as high as 20 in the CFP ranking.
I'd like to be ahead of FSU but 20 is okay. It doesn't really matter at this point. We need to win the next two and host the championship game. If we win that, we get to the Cotton Bowl. That's a great season.
It doesn’t really matter where we’re ranked now. All that matters is, win the last 3 games = Cotton Bowl. Lose any of them = Boca/Gasparilla Bowl

My thoughts completely. I am pretty sure we will get the NY6 invite over Coastal Carolina but the only thing we can do is keep winning!
My issue with being jobbed out of a higher spot now is what will happen in the final rankings. Say we go to the NY6 and win. Instead of being in the 6-8 area, we could end up in the Mid-teens. It has been shown that they will only jump a G5 school only said far…..not like what they just did for Wash.

Who cares? Nobody freaking remembers if you were ranked 9th or 11th in the final polls. Hell no one remembers final polls at all except if they're #1 or think they should be #1.
Sure it matters. When you have a history of X number of Top 10 or Top 20 finishes, that can be used for recruiting. Networks love to post ranking details which helps with perception and building the program.
Both teams we lost to are currently 6-4 so I wouldn't call them terrible teams. We should hope those two teams keep winning.
The CFP doesn’t do a “final ranking”. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
💯 final rankings do matter. Saying we finished #6 is better than saying we finished #14. It matters to the fanbase and to new recruits.
Agree. Definitely matters. Ranked = Relevant
They do one after CCGs. Not after Bowl games. The last one is for seeding. In early December. Not in January after Bowls and CFP is complete.
What launches us best into the Big12 is my greatest concern not the current ranking since we lost 2 games and next season we will be part of the Power 5.

Whats the difference if we are ranked 10 th with 1 or 2 losses? Still ranked 10th if we win out.
Tulane plays SMU tonight. Hope Tulane and Cincy both win as long as we beat Navy so 3 teams are ranked.
Beating Tulane and Cincy adds some credibility to this and after we get into
the Big12 schedule we will be treated better.

We all know they stop at selection, then the AP does the final poll. We have been through this many times in the past decade, where you finish in the final AP poll matters
