From yesterday's Chicago Tribune (2 more full days left in August)

Tavon (10 yr old) was among more than 400 people shot in Chicago this month. There have been at least 78 homicides, marking August as the most violent month in the city in almost 20 years, according to data provided by the Chicago Police Department. And there are two more days to go.

Chicago has recorded 487 homicides and more than 2,800 people shot so far this year, compared to 491 homicides and 2,988 people shot all of last year, according to Tribune data.

For comparison, last year TOTAL, for all of Orange County, there were 100 homicides.

Sounds like they could use more of those racist, corrupt, murdering cops.
There were some pretty egregious acts by the tac squad that needed to be handled. But these rises have gone hand in hand with the elimination of the more aggressive policing in Chicago (which was requested by the communities and was a response to rising forcible felonies). Unfortunately, the world we live in today has no balance, patience, or wider understanding, so the best level of aggressive policing will never be found.

I was in Chicago last month. We stayed by the Magnificent Mile downtown and were out pretty late most nights. It was nice and I don't think I got panhandled once (mind you, the area we stayed in is one of the nicest in the city). I talked to some natives there and I guess most of this shit is on the South side.

Correct. Most of it is in neighborhoods you aren't gonna see as a tourist.

Chicago does a great job keeping the haves and the have nots separate. One of the most segregated cities around.

What's amazing is that Rahm Emanuel could not give less of a shit about all of this, yet people in that city will still vote for D's under any circumstance.

The Dems in charge of that City know that...as sadly, many of the African-Americans that live in high crime areas of Chicago will always vote for the Dems...regardless how many of them die.

Dems don't have to waste 2 mins on them per year...no need to coddle them since they are program to vote D every single time (actually, Dem Precinct Captain just collects all mail order ballots and fills them out for all on his block/street).

Chicago Blue does a great job in most downtown/northside areas (where most visitors stay/go)...South/West areas...its a war zone.

I always say of Downtown Chicago "reminds me of a clean NYC".
