. . . whether we're ready or not. We're taking on an ECU team that swept us during the regular season up in Greenville. It's the only conference series of the season in which we were swept. Let's give ECU some payback this Wednesday.

Unlike some other AAC losses this year, the 3 game series in Greenville vs ECU were all decided by 1 run.

Hopefully, UCF will be on the better side of that equation come Wed.

Here's the schedule line-up for the AAC Tourn:

Facts for the ECU series.

We are 31-25 (10-14)
They are 36-20 (15-9)

Our RPI #51
Their RPI #36

Our top 6 hitters are hitting .308 or better
Their top 6 hitters are hitting .283 or better.
UCF ba .297
ECU ba .285

We have 9 batters with +4 HR (11,9,8,7,6,5,5,5,5)
They have 2 batters with +4 HR (12,7)

We have scored 351 runs in 56 games
They have scored 292 runs in 56 games

We have .469% slg
They have .389% slg

I would give us the hitting advantage.

I'm going to compare our top 2 starters (Rodgers and Finfrock) and their top 2 starters (kruczynski and love).

Wins and losses, era, batting average against
Rodgers 10-0, 2.18, .220
Finfrock 7-5, 3.25, .228
Kruczynski 7-4, 3.29, .283
Love 7-3, 2.79, .255

Middle relief and closing
UCF struggles here
Hukari 4-4, 4.89, .313, and 5 saves
Marsh 0-1, 3.38, 2.63, 1 save

ECU has this for a strength
Ingle 0-0, .70, .119, 6 saves and 27 appearances
Durazo 4-0, 2.70, .246, 2 saves
Morgan 4-0, 3.10, .247

If they have the lead late in the game, we are in trouble. If we have our bullpen pitching late in the game, we are in trouble. We need a great start from our great starters, and we need them to go the distance.

ECU is 1-15 when they score 0-2 runs.
They are 4-3 if they score 3 runs.
They are 31-2 when they score 4 or more runs.
* we need to keep them under 4 runs!

When their opponent scores 0-5 runs ECU is 33-10.
If opponent scores 6-8 they are 3-3.
If opponent scores 9 or more they are 0-7
*To "promise" a victory, we need 9 or more runs.

ECU holds onto their leads!!
When leading after 7 innings, they are 30-0.

When their opponent has the lead after the 3rd inning ECU is 2-12
4th inning 1-12
5th inning 2-13
6th inning 1-15
7th inning 0-14
8th inning 1-16
* we just need to get an early lead!
Score first and win!

Is it safe to say that Rooney will go with Zach Rodgers against ECU? In a double-elimination tournament, it's an understatement to say that winning the first game is huge.

But winning the last game is bigger. ;-)

Leaving Rodgers in for the ninth proved costly. Does Rooney have zero confidence in someone coming in from the pen or too much confidence in Rodgers? Either way, this season is fizzling out in disappointing fashion.

you must not have seen our pitching staff..Just who in the heck could he trust from that sorry ass pitching staff. Zack was his only choice.

Has anyone seen the bullpens in the ACC or SEC games. There are studs throughout all those staffs..Nowhere similar to the UCF staff. I agree the hitting let us down bigtime BUT our pitchers always dug a hole.

Have not had a chance to see much this season, so I'll defer to those that have. However, I will make the general statement that if we're in game 1 of a tournament and don't have a single pitcher that can come in for the 9th inning after a starter gives you 8 innings and about 100 pitches, then Rooney has failed miserably is putting together even a pony league caliber baseball team.

If I have a pitcher on my team who is 10-0 on the season and it's a do or die situation, you give it to him and trust him. He pitched well for the first 8 innings and put us in s situation to win.
I don't know the conversation that they had, but I'm sure rooney and him talked before going out for the bottom of the 9th. Zack probably felt he had some left in his tank. We lost. It doesn't mean we played bad or suck. It was a good ballgame but we lost.
