CNN poll

I recall how Republicans were convinced around this time back in 2008 and 2012 that McCain and Romney were going to win. While I expected Clinton to prevail in 2016, I sure as heck wouldn't have bet against an upset because there were a number of troubling 'red light danger signs' back then including: 1) The Brexit vote; 2) Bernie beating Hillary in the Michigan primary; 3) Hillary's head-scratching Veep pick; 4) Hillary running her fall campaign as if she was awaiting her coronation instead of hitting her weak spots hard before the vote; and 5) Comey's eleventh hour resurfacing of the email scandal, thanks to pervo Weiner's laptop.

This time around, the situation feels very reminiscent of both Obama races with Conservatives ignoring the mood of the country and remaining confident that 'the secret, silent majority' would bring home the vote.

I have always been an optimistic, "America sometimes screws up but will eventually get it right" kind of voter. But if, in some 'bizarro world' scenario, Trump were to somehow win the electoral college again, America will richly deserve all the additional pain, suffering, and world ridicule that will come our way as a result. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I dont remember that with McCain. Romney, yes but there wasn't any excitement for him. There's still a lot of excitement for Trump from his base so Bidens gonna have to do something to match that.

9% of voters that are voting for Biden are doing so because of his policy positions.

Most people who vote for Biden probably will do so as a vote AGAINST Donald rather than for Joe.

Aside From Crazy, no one is reading your extremely long winded short novels. Stop wasting your time.

tl;dr

I dont think that has ever worked.

Well, I think it certainly did for Donald in 2016. I don't believe that it's that far off base to say most people threw a vote his way because they couldn't stand Hillary. Yes, she won the popular vote but that obviously doesn't matter. Joe will win the popular vote this time as well.

uh....how about 2016?
I could see that except for what happened in the primaries. For whatever reason, Trump was able to overcome some of the most popular republican politicians in the country like Cruz and Rubio so there had to have been quite a bit of enthusiasm for him. As soon as he announced his candidacy there were a lot of people excited about the prospect. He now has the advantage of that rabid base plus being the incumbent.

It was always going to tighten. 1.) We need more polls. 2.) We need to wait until after Labor Day and see what effect Kamala Harris has, probably little. 3.) Biden is at the magic number of 50%, which is good 4.) Trump never polls above his approval ratings. I'm not sure that there is much swing vote for him to capture since now he's a known quantity. I don't think any of Biden's support will switch to Trump (and vice versa).

Like everything with Trump it's about him, the election is Trump vs not-Trump. Biden was VP for 8 years so he's reached the minimum threshold of being qualified (unlike Sanders, Buttigieg, Booker and others). Biden just needs to stay in his basement and let Trump run for and/or against himself. Nobody takes more oxygen than Trump, so why try?

There were a few times in the summer of 2016 that I said to myself. "I can't vote fore her. How bad could Trump be?" In the end, I felt that it was my duty to vote for the competent, consistent candidate (Hillary) even though I really didn't want to. It didn't feel good.

Do you feel the same way about Biden?

I can't speak for bizzle, but I 100% don't feel the same way about Biden. I have never liked the Clintons, what they stood for, and never voted for them.
I liked Bill in the 90's. Never liked Hillary. I respect Biden, he has a compelling story of how he raised his kids after losing his first wife. When they tell it this week, people will be moved. He is also a man of faith, which I respect. At his core, he's a good person or at least tries to be. He makes mistake (like we all do) but he usually makes them when he's trying to build relationships not tear them down. I'm happy to cast my vote for Biden for 4 years as POTUS (not so much for 8 years).

Yeah, he is a fellow member of the Catholic tribe, which is nice. Trump ain't no Christian and I don't vote for people who aren't Christians.

I never thought McCain was going to win, I did think Romney had a chance early, then he took a Knee in the last debate, and I had no doubt it was over. I really didn't think Trump was going to win either, though I thought it would be closer than pundits were saying.

Biden is going to make terrible president and we will all lose. The only reason that he would win is because he will get the ANYBODY, but Trump vote

You will lose either way, but you just don’t see it

What do chuds realistically want from a second Trump term?
The same thing that we got from the first. Lower taxes, tough on immigration, tough on trade/China, a decent relationship with Russia and NK, America first, respect our flag, etc

Crazy Twitter rants don’t affect my life.

And Trump would have nobody to blame but himself bc he can't help but act like a child. Say what you want about people being needing to look the other way and grow thicker skin, if he loses its his own doing.

It’s very simple. He CANNOT help himself, but it doesn’t bother me because it doesn’t effect me. People want a president to be mature and presidential. I really don’t care. It’s mostly the Twitter thing.
I just look at the issues that are directly related to me and that I feel are the most important for our country.
I think at this point blaming Trump for the pandemic is annoying. I blame Americans overall. You can’t strictly lockdown Americans

Worse than 10% unemployment and 200,000 dead Americans? "What the heck do you have to lose?"

The 10% would be worse with dems, they wanted to keep things closed down. When Trump first started making moves to slow the virus, Biden, Pelosi, Cuomo were calling him racist, and recommending we visit China town and ignore the virus. Acting like Democratic' s would have done more is just ignoring how and what they did do. The worse death rates came from Democratic run states where they shipped Covid positive people into nursing homes with the most vulnerable people..

Tell me more Nostradumbass. Every other country in the world is lowering their death numbers and opening back up.

None of that is tangible except lower taxes which can’t really go any lower since we pissed away opportunities to control the budget during times of economic prosperity and now have trillions of dollars in deficit during a depression.
