...for the wrong reasons.
1) there was no grand conspiracy for GOL to stay here "as long as he wanted"
2) GOL wanted to step down after the Fiesta Bowl but was asked to stay by the administration.
3) GOL volunteers to retire once it is clear that Brent Key is not the guy to lead the team.
George O'Leary was an amazing catch for UCF. He created UCF as a brand name where there was nothing before. The haters are still wrong; we won championships because of George, not in spite of him. To think otherwise is just ignorance. You will never convince me otherwise.
I am glad George stepped down when he did. His move is akin to Steve Spurrier who recognized a need and moved aside. He certainly did not have to, he had a contract to stay. I will go on record to state that there is little chance that UCF has the success and recognition that we currently enjoy without GOL.
George O'Leary stepping down is not proof that the haters were right, it is proof that they had GOL pegged wrong. He did not want to coach forever, he has always had the best in mind for this program and I applaud him.
Thanks for everything George
