Things aren't always as they appear.

I've been gathering information since the weekend... little by little, it's painting a picture of what *I think* may be happening.

The Dino Babers report threw me off. Way off. Had me second guessing my information.

UCF isn't talking. But other people are. And I continued hearing things today. Mostly about former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano.

I'm not looking for Twitter glory or imaginary scoop points by taking speculation and presenting it as fact. So I'll just phrase the following as my opinion, nothing more.

I think Greg Schiano interviewed with UCF over the weekend. I think he has always been UCF's top candidate. I think other names that were previously leaked may have been a misdirection or smokescreen to throw off the trail.

I do think Dino Babers is (was?) considered a leading candidate as well. But I don't think he ranks ahead of Schiano. I do know Babers interviewed with UCF on Saturday. I think the 247 report about Babers couldn't be more wrong.

I think Schiano is also in play at Miami. Early Monday night, it was reported he interviewed with Miami on Sunday. I had already heard that. If so, I think it fits that he interviewed with UCF on Saturday. Miami insiders are going crazy regarding the rumors whether their next coach will be Schiano or Butch Davis (or Mark Richt).

I think if Schiano wanted to be UCF's next coach, this could have been announced on Monday. In light of the Miami interest, I think Schiano may be waiting on an offer there as well. I'm not sure UCF can get into a bidding war here.

Today, I expect either we'll learn Schiano is UCF's new coach or he is Miami's new coach. I'm not quite sure of Miami's situation, though I've heard they hope to finalize a decision Tuesday or Wednesday.

If we don't hear anything soon, and I'm referring to UCF, I don't think it will be Schiano.

So if not Schiano, then maybe Dino Babers, but I think there are other names in the mix. A source close to Geoff Collins says he said he didn't interview. So I'm not sure what to believe of the "final four."

I said on Monday to expect the unexpected. Maybe that's what will happen.
