Coaching change article

Wouldn't it be poetic if UCF were to hire....Steve Sarkisian. The similarities to O'Leary pre-UCF are almost spooky. Both were position coaches in the NFL at some point (different sides of the ball but run with me, dammit!). Both kept marginal P5 programs afloat and left for the "dream gig" elsewhere. Both were fired because their employers did not properly do their research before hiring them. Both were then considered "toxic" afterwards because of what they did.

No. Let Sark take San Diego State to the Fiesta bowl in a few years.

What about Doc Holiday? The guy seems to be able to recruit FL kids to play in WV.
Plus hiring Marshall coaches has worked out well in the past*
Plus he's coached under Urban Meyer at Florida before...but the detractors criticize Marshall's lower standards. No one seemed to mind when we hired Donnie but i suppose that is a topic on its own.

He has to convince kids to leave Florida and live in WV and train in Marshall's facilities. He can't exactly be expected to pull the creme of the crop. With the same connections at UCF, I have no doubt he could pull in some high caliber kids.

Most of the kids he recruits wouldn't meet our acceptance standards and not qualify. GOL might not get the best recruits but almost all qualify, graduate and stay out of trouble. We've won before with those players, don't want to throw that away for a few higher ranked players.

I see, so when he was the recruiting coordinator at UF he also only got kids that wouldn't meet UCF's acceptance standards?

Collins would be the ideal choice. Coached here before, recruited Fl and rest of south, been successful every stop along the way.

How many times has that narrative been shoved down our throats right? Why did we hire Donnie then!

If you are a OC or DC at a major school in the B10 or SEC, your next step is head coach at a P5 program, not a G5 program, unless you believe you have recruiting advantages and an easy schedule ahead of you.

I agree - if an OC or DC at a P5 school is making $700K - I would think they would jump to a G5 school if the HC offer is $1.5M - double your salary.

Other names that may surface if the job officially opens up are Cristobal and Kiffin. I think they would be a lot more risky compared to someone like Durkin but could be a good situation for both of them to succeed. The only Power 5 Job I see Cristobal's name mentioned is Miami so if they don't come calling he wouldn't hesitate for that chance to get back in the State of Florida

I'd like to see Randy Shannon added to the list. Dude can recruit and is partially responsible for beginning the cleanup of Miami.

Look at all the arrests and other incidents from that time at UF. They may have qualified, or administration was lenient cause they were a stud, but they also had character issues which GOL has avoided.
