Could all this Big-12 talk just be a ploy to sell more tickets?

I think it is a combination of:

1) There is legitimate chatter that the Big 12 is evaluating expansion and UCF is on the short list of candidates IF the Big 12 is going to expand. Since this is true, we must put on a good showing IF they do start making phone calls. UCF didn't force WVU to mention the fact that the conference is evaluating expansion and WVU isn't going to go out their way to help UCF sell season tickets.

2) Regardless of whether the Big 12 actually expands, UCF can use this expansion propaganda as an opportunity to sell season tickets and increase donations.

Just wondering if anybody thought about this?

Several "Debbie Downers" in the Dungeon claim they believe that's the case. Clearly they are not paying attention. At the very least we know that WVU admitted that there is a group of B12 presidents exploring expansion possibilities and that the WVU AD is for expansion "if the right schools can be found.". That by itself makes the idea that this is "just a marketing ploy to sell tickets" a ridiculous claim.

Whether there is more to UCF's statements than that is what is fun to speculate about.

EVERYTHING that our athletic department does is part of a ploy to sell more tickets. Isn't that what they're in business for? I'm not saying that's a bad thing; that's just what it is.

O’Leary said, “Oregon State is a Power 5 school. I can certainly see the enticement of him wanting to take the job.”

Doesn't sound like UCF is in a sprint to the Power 5 to me.

It was clearly all hot air bs to sell tickets. If a P5 invite is imminent then Stansbury doesn't take the Oregon State job despite his prior ties. He sticks at UCF and gets celebrated as the AD when it happened & gets an immediate pay raise

Fun, but silly suppositions. I don't know the guy, but how do you know he and family don't love Oregon? Stay at UCF (a place he only spent a few years at) and maybe get a pay raise of unknown amount when it goes to Big 12, or get a definite raise at a place he loves in a better P5 conference than the Big 12, one where he wouldn't have to cater to 1 team. You can assume one way, i.e. that UCF isn't in a sprint to the Big 12 (with no proof that what he said isn't true), then I can suppose that UCF is already in and there is no more work here at UCF to be done, so he goes to another U. that he and his family already loved. Goal's accomplished let the new AD create new goals.

So lets hire the next AD that loves UCF and wants to be here. Not just a stepping stone. Having a stable AD is very important. It takes a long time to build relationships. I feel like I've been #genshafted by this. Rah-Rah one day then bye-bye I'm leaving. #lame #yesIknowhashtagsareannoying

I like getting an assistant AD from a P5 school like we did with Stansbury. You know there are a lot of them itching for the head post. Nice and hungry, especially with the potential to get to move UCF into a P5 conference.
