From a story I posted to the front page about the Chinander hire:

Chinander was reunited with Frost at Oregon in 2010, spending three seasons as a graduate assistant under Chip Kelly. He followed Kelly to the NFL to become an assistant defensive line coach with the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2013 season.

During that first stint at Oregon and later at Philadelphia, Chinander was mentored by veteran defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro.

"Really, Azz taught me about getting the most out of guys and creating the culture in the meeting room that you need and that taught me this business is about teaching," Chinander told the Oregonian in a feature story shortly after he was hired full-time in 2014. "You might be different from me but we need to find a way to teach these kids what we want them to do."

Azzinaro's trademark is running a 3-4 defense, which could be a clue to the sort of system he implements at UCF, which has never known anything but a traditional 4-3 front.

Azzinaro is a 3-4 guru. Here's a story from FishDuck about Azz making the move with Chip Kelly and another from 2013 about the quick success with Eagles were having with the 3-4.
