In the past, after losing the WH, the Conservative Political Action Committee had conferences where the attendees would do some serious analyzing about what the movement needs to do to regain power . So you'd THINK after losing the WH, losing the Senate, and remaining the minority in the House, there'd be some heavy soul-searching about the movement's future.

But thus far, I'm seeing the exact, same blowhards saying the exact, same stupid things that put them into their current predicament in only four short years.

I'd love for someone here to explain how sticking with Team Trump is going to get them anything.

I dont really get it either. THe reason he lost is because of the suburban women vote, and not really sure why that would change if he ran in 24, because they were turned off by him personally. IN saying that, I have a feeling he isnt going to run, though I could certainly be wrong. I think he is going to fund raise and leave it hanging out there for several years, but will ultimately not want to go through the election cycle again. Plus, he could basically try and be kingmaker, and then have none of the responsibility of being president, while also still having the adoration of the GOP and some form of power.

At this point though, much of the GOP is just scared of him and dont want to ruin their own election chances. I am interested to see how long that lasts though. Cruz, Hawley, and any of the other potential candidates obviously dont want him to run, so do we get to a point where people like them start to turn on him?

The GOP lost by six states and over seven million votes last November --- yet somehow they're going to turn it around and be victorious in 2024 by RUNNING OFF MORE so-called "Rinos" from the party?

It makes absolutely no sense.

Well the left after losing the Prez house and senate, went even harder left into full blow Socialism and won. They did not move back towards the center left.

I like the golden idol statue that they made of Donald with a desecrated American flag for shorts and flip flops. I guess most of those religionists skipped over the part in the Old Testament about golden idols, and stuff. I am totally convinced that there is chocolate underneath that shit and those loons are going to eat him when that conference ends.

You want us to believe the Democrats going with Joe Biden was a move to the hard left into full blown Socialism?
Right now the Republicans are in a tough spot. Big tech and media is in with democrats to control the message.
What message? The Big Lie?

Definitely not going out of their way to end the idea that they've turned into a cult.

The reason Trump lost was because the Dems cheated. So the Reps need more Trump people. *

Definitely not going out of their way to end the idea that they've turned into a cult.
This morning the cult is all about bashing Liz Cheney for having the audacity of voting to IMPEACH The Donfather for inciting a patriotic riot at the Capitol.

I'd love for a Republican political strategist to explain to us how exactly the party's...oops, I mean the cult's kiss-the-loser's ring strategy is going to somehow bring a bright new future in 2024.

Trumpism has gone from threatening our democracy to threatening to rip apart our two-party system by destroying the GOP.

The GOP is good at circling the wagons against a common enemy. That enemy is Biden.

The GOP has never been good at circling the wagons. Thats what makes the party different from the democrats.
Historically, the democrats have always been the 'disunity' party when compared to the republicans.

I heard one of the brilliant ideas that's come out of this year's CPAC is that the party needs to bolster it's image as the party of the 'working class.' Yeah, guys, straight party-line votes against the covid relief/economic stimulus bill is an effective way to prove it! :)

Trump is a man of the people. Working class.

Trump is a man of the people. Working class.

That's how he appealed to all them coal miners and them Wal Mart greeters, got dammit. Donald spent the better portion of his early years mining that shit and wearing a blue apron. He worked and worked and built his whole empire on minimum wage.

Just when you think golden calf Trump was as bad as it gets...

Republicans very rarely vote as a 100% block. When they do, it’s because the vote is so obvious even most Democrats are voting for it. It’s another case of Democrats on here accusing Republicans of doing something that their D politicians wrote the book on and cornered the market with for decades.

I have a theory: Trump is hurting financially and siphons money off of the donations to his PAC. He is trying to convince the Republican voters to donate to only his PAC, so he demonizes the other Republicans as "Rinos".

Running off of the "Trump brand" is more cost effective than hundreds of candidates trying to create their own brand.

Exactly what he is doing. Trump was never really a Republican, he just hijacked the party to make it his own party. He is going to end up severely damaging the party before he is done if he keeps pulling this type of stuff.

What in the world are you talking about? The GOP almost always gets in line for their candidates. Trump is a perfect example. Before he was nominated in 2016 they were thinking of replacing him with Paul Ryan at the convention they disliked him so much. After the nomination, they rallied around him as much as they possibly could, with a few exceptions.

He's not running in 2024 and he will handicap the nominee in 2024 as that leaves him as the last successful Republican.

Exactly! They won 3/6 last presidential elections only because they were able to circle the wagons. 2 of them had a split democratic caucus. You have to go back to 1992, 1996 to find a fractured GOP.

I think you are exactly right. He is the first president, on either side, to have his party lose the house, senate, and presidency in 1 term since the great depression. His track record is terrible and it amazes me so many Republicans are still rolling over for him.

People won't jump off of the Trump train until there is massive wipeout election which is hard to have as a Democrat. The House is gerrymandered and most states are rural/Red. The only way it happens is if the Dems can find more Obama/Biden like candidates to run. They are harder to find because the Democratic leadership is 500 years old and won't step down, and the new crop of democrats are all socialists.

I am interested to see what is going to happen after 2022. For one, I am just interested to see if Trump really cares at that point, and if people still actually care about him. But also, there are other Republicans with presidential aspirations. At some point someone is going to step up and challenge him, especially if he hasnt committed to running, and who knows what happens within the party at that point.

Trump will care because he can fundraise off of it. I think either an establishment person like John Thune or a Trump puppet (DeSantis, Hawley) will get the nomination. Neither will win unless the Dems nominate an unlikeable candidate like Hillary.

But he will have to commit one way or the other at some point. He wont be able to fundraise into 2023 without making a commitment, because at some point other candidates will have to start campaigning.

I dont think Desantis, Hawley, or Cruz have a shot. They will try to do their best Trump impression, but Trump has been a celebrity for almost 40 years, and really for no reason. He perfected the PR game and getting people interested in him back in the 80s. I think those others will just come across as assholes with nowhere near the appeal. I think Nikki Haley or someone along those lines is much more likely.

Logic would say that Trump's campaign days are over. But when has anything ever been logical about Trump? I'd bet money that he runs again in 2024 and spends the next three and a half years holding mass rallies in Trumplands around the country.

Two reasons: 1) As has already been mentioned, he can raise money by doing it. (if you don't think money is at the heart of everything Trump does, explain why he would prohibit the RNC from using his name or likeness in fundraising?) and
2) He's literally addicted to the love and adulation he gets from his campaign rallies.

If he loses again would that be rigged too?
