Could it be a game changer? Sure. You bet.

Will it be an attention grabber. Definitely.

But my concern is that it's just a ploy to save money. We need to be fully invested to do whatever it takes to be successful. It's like the PLC. Invest heavily in the beginning to get started and once you become established then and only then can you take cost saving initiatives.

I appreciate Eddie Murphy playing the donkey in Shrek all sassy like. Now every time I see a donkey, I want to give it a parfait. He could have gone the eeyore rout, but nay! He stayed the course and now the sassy donkey stereotype is victorious. Raw indeed, Eddie Murphy. Raw indeed.

I don't see the applicability of crossfit in football conditioning. An offensive lineman shouldn't be kipping. Their workout needs to focus on conditioning that will help them push someone else back. That's different for a WR, which is different than a DE, which is different than a LB.
Football is a team game of roles. Everyone has a purpose and a body type that makes them the perfect instrument for that job.
Crossfit is about being in good shape, healthy, and pretty good at everything athletically. Football is about a team, where each member is excellent at a narrow range of activities.

There's been plenty of athletes in all sports that have adopted Crossfit training. Sean Payton and the Saints have done it in the NFL. But as a strength and conditioning program, Crossfit is essentially just a brand name that's been applied to training using functional movements and olympic lifting. It's been going on forever and UCF has been doing elements of it for a very long time.

But who cares? I mean it isn't like Crossfit is a substitute for actual football skills practice. It's just a strength and conditioning program.

Introduce crossfit as training? So you want the ENTIRE team out for injuries instead of just 1/4 of them?

Yeah, contrary to popular belief, crossfit is incredibly dangerous because the people "coaching" it are not properly versed in form and safety. The focus of crossfit is high reps no matter what they don't care if your form is rediculious and as a result people doing it get hurt. A lot. Doctors and physical therapists actually love crossfit because of how much business it brings them.

Athletic trainer and Physical therapist here. Crossfit has a time and place. There is nothing wrong with it if the form remains good throughout all exercises (like any exercise program). That being said, every sport requires a different training regimen. Think of cross country runners and sprinters. One has to train slow twitch (endurance) muscle fibers and the other, fast twitch (power). Both are required to play any sport at the optimum level (they are just weighted differently).

Many sports use "Crossfit" techniques already and will continue to do so along with any other techniques that work to train whichever muscle fiber they are trying to focus on.

Fyi: insanity and p90x gives me more business than crossfit (but it all depends on the trainer/instructor).
