Hey you chem nerds, what do you know about this?

Apparently, Cuba developed a pretty promising lung cancer vaccine years ago that can help prompt the immune system to keep lung cancer growth to a minimum or completely stop new growth. Now the US is getting an opportunity to study it and bring it here where it might be able to be generalized for other types of cancers.

(I guess the true definition of vaccine is a little different than what I thought)

Interesting read (Wired)

It is pretty well known that those commies down there have a decent healthcare system.

But Rush Limbaugh said that the only benefit that would come from normalizing relations with Cuba would be easier access to cigars, and that Obama just wanted to use tax payer money to prop up a dictatorship because... Obama bad ooga ooga ooga.

It's hilarious watching liberals like you go into hysterics about Rush Limbaugh, knowing that not a single conservative I know has ever listened to his show.

He makes his money off of moron liberals who tune in just to be outraged. What a business model.

Recent Reuters poll on political pundits found 1 in 4 admire Rush Limbaugh... there are plenty of conservatives that gobble up his bullshit, but good to hear they're becoming fewer in numbers.

maybe we should wait until it is tasted properly. They gave the "vaccine" to people that was dying and some of them lived 4-6 months longer. Funny that the test was done in 2008 so there should be data available from the clinical tests in "Japan and some European countries."

Oh- a

And liberals tune in to watch Ed Schultz and......Al f*cking Shapton.

And that's on primetime TV, not some AM radio station. Shining examples of liberalism today.

There are plenty of conservatives that I know, or have known for years, who listen to Rush. It's like they start with him and then graduate on to other idiots like Hannity and Beck.

I couldn't even tell you where to find him on the radio. I don't think anyone under 35 could.

My radio is either on CNBC, Liquid Metal, Hair Nation, or POTUS.

I enjoy Rush from time to time when I'm sick of everything else on the radio. It's entertainment and I love to hear the libtards faux rage over everything he says. Limbaugh is simply in it for the laughs where Hannity and Beck are serious, imo.

I like Mark Levin. He's a rager and a smart guy.

Remember that time Rush was simply in it for the laughs when he told all those hilarious RACIST!!! jokes on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown? Man, he added so much to that shitty show.

Somebody did homework. Phase II clinical trials in 2008 and it's not a first line therapy? Who gives a shit.

On that note though, we are doing infvckingsane things with immunotherapy in the US. If we actually funded research we'd make some pretty great strides in that area.

Nah, I just read more than the headline and a couple of lines of the article. I also used my brain.

Ok let us all in on what Racist joke he said. It revolved around a Black QB, Steve Mc Nair if my memory is correct. What he said was neither aimed at Mc Nair nor racist. He simply stated he thought he was over rated as a QB, and people at ESPN judged him differently because he was black.

There is no racism in that remark, There was nothing negative said about Mc Nair other than being over rated.. (sorry not racist) though he did call out the the white sports press on how they judged him.

Let us know all the racist jokes he said, I must have missed them. U seem to have a much better memory... fill us in Joe.

Yeah I thought that was odd, the article doesn't say anything about giving this to people at risk for long cancer... Think about it though... how much would the chicken pox vaccine work for someone who already has chicken pox? It wouldn't.

So this kept new growth from occurring but they were still SOL due to other complications from having a bag of oranges of tumors in your chest.

It looks like they are trying to use after chemo (when the patient is in remission) to prevent cancer from coming back.

BTW, there was something about injecting the Polio virus inside brain tumors. I guess Polio just destroys the tumor in a few months. Interesting stuff

The idea behind cancer immunotherapy is that you can turn your body's natural defenses to 11. Your immune system is constantly scanning for abnormal cells and finds a sackload every day. It goes bad when the abnormal cells get more advanced and figure out how to evade the immune system, that's when a tumor starts to grow.

The polio thing is akin to painting a target that your body couldn't see otherwise and saying "kill all this shit."

Man, if only we had medial developments in this country.*
We are funding at the lowest rate since WWII. China will pass us soon and we'll lose out on being the most scientifically innovative country. I've played enough video games to know that your science has to be better than the other countries if you want to win.

No idea where you're pulling these figure from but according to this report, China still lags way behind the US even though their growth rate is higher. Which is not surprising considering they're starting at a way, way lower base than the US. THey'll soon hit the law of diminishing returns just like every other country does.

The fact is that many countries have finally jumped in and developed their own research, which is a good thing, not a problem. The share of US spending has declined but really it is because other countries are consuming a larger share globally. A cancer vaccine discovered in the UK will work on humans in the US.

I'm perfectly fine with slowing our own spending growth if we can partner with nations like the UK, France, Australia, Germany, Japan, etc to leverage their increased expenditures to join efforts. This research is extremely hit or miss and you could spend a fortune on research that eventually goes nowhere.

Yeah. Patient No. 1 and No. 2 are healthy now but they killed No. 3 because they injected too much polio and the immune system went crazy (the tumor first gets bigger because of swelling from the attack).
