GOL wanted to announce it on his terms and the end of the season. Hitt wanted him to announce it after the Houston game but still coach out the remaining 4 games. He got pissed off and walked...Thank you President Hitt for putting your foot down

Hitt's preferred plan was for O'Leary to make the retirement announcement and continue coaching the rest of the season (a la Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech), but an angry O'Leary decided to step down immediately rather than coach out the string as a lame duck.
