There has been a lot of talk about how David Kelly is responsible for UCF's recent success. Some agree, some don't.
This board sucks right now so I thought I'd put it up for debate.
In the 5 years Kelly was recruiting (2007-2011) he brought in 40 recruits by my count. Of those, 11 had above average careers (27%), this is subjective.
Guyton, J Davis, Kemal, Jordan Akins, Godfrey, Geathers, McCrays, Reese, Hall, & Perriman. Definitely some star power.
The other 29 were either flops or spot players.
In 2013, the pinnacle of UCF's success, 7 of those players made meaningful contributions.
The questions are:
Is 27% a good ratio for a recruiter? No idea
Would UCF have been as successful without those player? Doubtful, but you could say that about the other 14 starters and special teams players.
Was it worth it? The million dollar question
I have no opinion as I think UCF's success was a team effort.
