If you read the article you linked, the movie Velma was originally written as a gay character and had her sexuality 'toned down' and then eventually eliminated all-together by the studio.

I'm really surprised that a staunch Libertarian such as yourself is upset that cartoon Velma finally feels free to 'come out' to the world.
