Depth Chart?

Not much that is hugely surprising. Small ones to me:
1) Brandon Adams beating out Thornton for starting spot.
2) No Terrance Lewis.
3) Holler holding off Gamble.
4) Bullard starting over Perry.
5) RJ going from 1st string last year to 4th this year. (Injury though, so I get it)

1) BJ has more length, 6'3 vs 6'1
2) I think they are taking it slow with TL bc of injury
3) This was surprising, I thought it would be at least Gamble or Holler, not Holler or Gamble.
4) At first, thought Perry would start at the Knight, but Hodges and Bullard made decent strides in off season
5) True, RJ still has like 2 or 3 years of eligibility

Length is good. But that alone wouldn't give him the pass. I am personally happy though, I really liked what BJ did with his opportunities last year.
I wasn't that impressed with Bullard. Seemed like they poached Perry to come in and start at the safety position along Divaad.
Need to take Depth Charts with some grain of salt, 2nd drive could already change depth.

Lots of new faces to look forward to! Interested to see Xavier Townsend. Can't imagine they love risking Newt as a punt returner. Shocked to see Lee Hunter listed third, but I'm thinking they'll rotate a lot there.

Some things I found intersting:

1) Stephen Martin is WR2 at the second WR spot
2) Paul Rubelt is climbing the ranks
3) We'll finally see Dallaz get some action
4) Nikai is at the Knight
5) Kinnie and Harris are stepping in early. Also Nate Brady making strides, is he a walkon?
6) I'm surprised that a few players I thought would be on the field by now, Dionte, Jordan Johnson, Francois, haven't cracked the top 2 yet. Hoping they are right on the cusp

I know next year is a long ways away but if Matt Lee has the kind of year most are expecting and he declares for the draft, we could potentially lose all 5 OL.

I think we will see a lot of Holler and Gamble on the field at the same time. Gus likes to use those H-Back type of guys who line up in the backfield then go in motion. I think Holler will play that role this year with Gamble lined up more like a traditional TE.

Given Paul's size, extra training should be given. He's stayed true. Can't teach size! USE HIM
Especially on short yardage and goal line situations.

1. He made the first touchdown in the Spring Game.
2. Surprising.
4. Nikai will probably be the starter eventually.
5. Patrick Bennett and Ethan Mort must be awful. No way Brady sniffs the field.
6. No Joey Gatewood either :D

1. Exactly
2. He has to be suspended. For how many games, I do not know.
3. Probably depends on the formation and call as to who actually starts.
4. Gus almost always goes with returning starters in Game 1, so I would not read too much into it. I thought Perry would start at free safety and Bullard would move into the box at Divaad's safety spot and Divaad would bump out to nichol is obvious passing situations. I guess Nikai really wowed the staff.
5. RJ will be in the mix next season for sure.

I think that we have a great starting (first-pass) 2-deep.

However, knowing the depth that we have and how the month of September sees a lot of changes I don't expect this 2-deep to remain for the season.

I'm happy that some freshmen have made the 2-deep. Not surprised that although we got some good transfers not all of them are in the 2-deep. We shall see if other transfers break into the 2-deep by the end of the season.

This could be spin but maybe they are saving Lewis for Louisville

I’ve seen several reports of just bringing him back slowly because of the ACL, honestly haven’t seen anything about a suspension (Not that you said he was suspended but others have).

I’m only counting 8 DTs. Is it me or is that pretty lean? These guys get banged up a lot and are heavy rotated, thought should have at least 10+, right?

I think the 3 biggest concerns right now are: LB (especially against running teams like Navy), QB (can the 2 QBs generate enough quality in the passing game?), and of course, Obarski.

Also for next year… losing just about the whole o-line heading into the Big 12 is a big issue.
