DeSantis and Higher Education in FL

It's how private enterprises "trim the fat"...
We're talking about public universities, not private corporations.
The avg to high performers will be rehired.
Average to high performers? What's your criteria for determining 'high' performance? How do you get around that pesky thing in colleges and universities called 'tenure' ?

Guess what? Universities have tenure specifically intended to protect faculty from the political whims of government boards hellbent on decided what's a 'merit-worthy' educational course to teach and which are not.

You seem fired up, bring it back homie... You asked for insight, I gave you big corporate perspective.

That's what you call insight? That was like bringing a 'Duke Soccer' perspective to a discussion of UCF Football.
This same guy is the first to start screaming "NAME CALLING!!!!!" when he gets called out for saying something stupid. If you haven't noticed, he doesn't exactly address anything, and simply comments on the comments.

Bold move, but it this is usually the hubris of the unintelligent.

He is talking about a Public University like it is JP Morgan Chase making quarterly layoffs. You know how much of a disaster it would be if the same thing eventually happened to UCF? all this crap can effect the rankings of all the State schools

😁 no need to get upset... How would you characterize their zero-based budget approach? 🤔

Seems like the approach they are taking with that school.... Run it like a business.

You do this as well — you tell people they’re upset or try to predict their feelings. This is a message board, and no one gets upset. It is just a further deflecting device that you do, albeit not very well.

I'm curious, what do you believe to be the purpose of zero-based budget approach, if it's not trying to find a loop hole to fire who they don't want, and hire who they do?

Universities arent corporations and cant be run the same way. This is Desantis trying to punish people he doesnt agree with, just like he did with Disney. If you want good professors, you have to give them some leeway to teach as they see fit, and not have them looking over their shoulder worrying that a nut job governor will punish them for teaching something he doesnt agree it.

Debatable - they have a product to sell, and a market of buyers. If you are suggesting public universities with government funding comes with strings attached, I agree with you there. Private schools on the other hand...

Preach brother!

Do you think he's trying to fire those he doesn't agree with, and hire the ones he does?

I think he is trying to keep his name in the news for a presidential run, and going after "woke" is an easy way to virtue signal to the fox news crowd. I also think it's short sighted, because it makes him come across as overbearing and vindictive, and that isn't going to appeal to a large part of the population. Most people in this country are somewhere in the middle, either leaning right or left but still moderate, and this type of stuff only appeals to people on the far right.

That's why it's stupid if he has Presidential ambitions. I'm sure it's helping him fundraise. But this kind of stuff will be thrown back in his face in a general election. There's no way this stuff flies with a majority of voters.

It is one thing to be worried about something said in 3rd grade but at the college level this is ridiculous and dangerous. UCF professors changing names of courses to avoid getting hassled by our Governor’s administration. And if UCF tells them to F off we probably end up with Randy Fine as our University President the way things are going

Deathsantis and the words higher education don't mix

This is a perfect example of indoctrination. You can only read what we want you to read. They want you to believe there is pornography in schools yet I haven’t seen one actual example proving this to be true.
It's virtue signaling, but when we get to debate time this fall, I am interested to see how Desantis spins having books boxed up in Florida classrooms as somehow being a good thing. He is nuts and at some point in the not too distant future he is actually going to have answer questions about this bs.

Does DeSantis really believe he can persuade right-leaning moderates and independents that his crusade against higher education in his State is a good thing? Can he convince them he's not a racist, homophobe, Trump wanna-be?

In the words of Linda Ronstadt, "That'll be the Day."

LOL. Technically, that was Buddy Holly.

Biographies on Roberto Clemente and Hank Aaron have been banned in a Florida school district??!? SMH. You'd think we've time-traveled back a hundred years.

Deathsantis think he is a DICK-tator. He needs to go. And to jail too. Mini Hit----ler
This book censorship crap might earn DeSantis a few MAGA points against Trump in a primary campaign for the Republican nomination for POTUS.

But would some DeSantis fan here please explain to me how sh*t like this helps him win the hearts of the moderate middle in a general election? It makes no damn sense.

I’m truly curious to see how DeSantis will fair if he does run for president. I feel like he will do well in the red southern states but not in the midwestern states. I don’t think he will have enough support to win the nomination.

I may be wrong, but DeSantis doesn't strike me as a 'ready for primetime' politician. I wouldn't be surprised if his POTUS aspirations fall flat like the one-time Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker's did back in the day.

Even if the MAGA base decides to annoint him as their Chosen One, he's not winning a General Election.

He is in a tough spot. Trump is already going at him, and its only going to get worse, and I am not sure how Desantis is going to be able to play that game. If he does respond with insulting Trump, Trump is just going to go in harder. Not to mention he could run off some people who like both of them. If he doesnt respond then his whole tough guy schtick is likely to take a hit, and that is the only reason he gets so much recognition to begin with. Plus, if he were to win the GOP primary, isnt Trump just going to run as an independent to screw over the GOP?

His problem is that the red southern states is also where Trump is still popular.

hope you’re right but nothing would surprise me anymore .

I think Desantis is under the impression he is running for the president of Florida. A lot of this stuff isn't going to sell well in swing states and with moderates in general.
He 'is' the "president" (a la chief executive and commander-in-chief) of Florida... I know what you mean though.

DeSantis' decision to take on The College Board is a real head-scratcher. It makes less sense than his attack on Disney.
