There has been a divide bewteen some posters regarding P5 wins and conference championships being the priority. Just to play devil's advocate, would you trade the ECU hail-mary last second WIN for the last second LOSS in Ireland against Penn State? I'm not sure how I feel. Since I traveled all the way to Ireland for the game it was dissapointing to lose like that when we were clearly the better team and had to deal with the Penn State fans "celebrating" all over Dublin afterwards. I think I'm on the conference championship side of the fence but taking home the Croke trophy would've been cool and made the trip that much better. I think people that made the trip will be torn but those that didn't will take the conference title everytime.

Good question. My first response is to say...YES, I would trade those.

No.
The ECU pass gave us a conference championship. To say otherwise is foolish (Aside form just wanting a UCF win during your vacation in IReland) .

Great point...as it also gave UCF its first ever Back-to-Back Championships too.

Yes, 99.99% of all of us Knight fans loved our trips to Ireland...and yeah, I wish the game ended 4 secs sooner but no, I wouldn't trade another Championship over see UCF win in person at Croke Park.

Being able to sell the program to recruits as being a back-to-back conference championship winner is far more important than being able to say we won the inaugural Croke Park Classic. Like it or not, the kinds of young men we want to recruit want to be a part of a winning tradition.

As much as the Croke Park Classic Trophy was beautiful and unique, it would pale long term to the second American Conference Championship Trophy that we have in the trophy case.

Also, had we beaten Penn State they would have (arguably) finished without a bowl game at 5-7. Now our claim is that we beat a non-bowl sanction-impacted Penn State? Probably not the same luster.

Just two cents from an Old Video Guy.

I know a lot of folks on here think P5 wins are more important than conference wins -- but I saw several of our recruits touting our back to back conference wins. We all want to beat the P5 schools but I think the conference championships are way more important -- and if we keep winning the conference we'll keep getting better talent and winning more P5 games.

USF has had some pretty decent big wins but can't seem to win a conference. We should expect to win the conference every year -- I don't think we can bank on P5 wins considering we don't even know who we'll be playing year to year during our OOC schedule.

I would take the Penn State win because we already have 3 conference titles and 2 other title appearances. We would get our first sweep in a contract series against a P5 team. it would be a great start just one year from our magical season with our new QB Justin Holman. It would keep us in the national headlines at least one more week lol. We still have a winning season.

The freshman that didnt experience a conference title has more opportunity to do so....otherwise that was an experienced squad thats been through it all.

That said it doesnt mean i dont think Hail Perriman is worthless. Its definitely a play for the ages of UCF football and Holman as a living legend regardless of what happens come this Sept.

Had we beaten Penn State, they would have ended the season out of bowl contention... thus we would have beaten a below par Penn State team. At least by losing to them, we lost to a bowl eligible P5 team. I'll take the back to back Conference Championships over that.

People talk about press and what beating a P5 school would do for that press. Ask yourself this, who got more press, Penn State for winning the Croke Park Classic or us for beating ECU in the last minute to win back to back titles? You can also ask yourself, had we won in Dublin, but lost in ECU would have gotten as much press as we did? The answer is no. We would have gotten accolades at the beginning of the year, but then they would have all been gone by the end.

GO KNIGHTS!!!!!

Let me add in the context of the season if we beat Penn State, we wouldve been 6-1 traveling to UConn with a possible Top 25 appearance and the top team in discussion for the access bowl. Before you say well i dont want to be the Bools, we arent because they didnt have a 12-1 season from the year before to improve on....if we beat Penn State then you combine 2013 and 2014... thats a very impressive run before the game against ECU. The tale of the tape would have UCF with wins against a Big 10 team (Penn St), BYU and Houston while ECU would have wins against Va Tech (ACC) and North Carolina (ACC). Besides the talk on the boards was if we were gonna lose to any team in the conference it would be ECU.
