Did cincy just ish the bed on their coaching hire?

Not sure how it will turn out, but he gave them the middle finger on this one and went where he was wanted. They wanted him out at the beginning of the year and he turned it around and got them ranked a couple weeks ago. What will be interesting to see is how quickly their Top 25 recruiting class falls apart after this move. Consensus is that 'Ville will bring back Brohm, but not sure he can keep the recruiting class together.

Had my doubts on Sanders this year but I've come around. Dude backs up his talk (undefeated this year) and his kid is one of the best QBs that will finally be challenged next year.

I've watched the following video a couple of times and I'm a fan:

Came up to the Colorado players and basically told these kids to fight for their position or get out. Was completely transparent with them. Took all questions. Encouraged them to ask him anything. Tough. Old school. Talks about character and backs it up. Sticking with his SWAC team for their last game. Did not pull one of these weak coach excuses to leave and not coach the championship/bowl game.

I realize Louisville football hasn't been a juggernaut under him but he seems like a decent guy and I don't see any reason he can't have success at Cincy.

That said, even though he did beat Gus twice he's entering a different situation at Cincy and I'm glad we we've had Gus for two years already to upgrade for the Big XII.

Thank you for posting that.

What a great video to watch. If he builds a team with that mentality, that team will be one to watch for sure. Loved everything he said.

Fickell says coaching bowl game for Wisky.

Fickell spoke to reporters Sunday afternoon, while in a vehicle heading to Chicago on a recruiting trip. He acknowledged he plans to fill the role of head coach for the bowl game but details were sketchy.

“I envision myself being the head coach, but if that means I’m coaching the punters (or) coaching the kickers, I don’t know,” he said. “I just want to be around the guys. … I think it is really important for us to move forward and for me to be around these guys, with all the options these guys have nowadays and the chance to leave if they believe it is best.

“There is only one way to keep guys. There is only one way to build a program and it starts with relationships. The next three weeks are the best time for me to really starting building relationships with these guys.”

That is really a strange approach…..they should let the staff and players finish “their” season.

I don’t think ive ever seen a coach take over before bowl game. Quite a few of them won’t be back next year.

i think his reasoning is sound. you want to get around the guys as quickly as possible in this easy transfer era.
That’s what I got out of it. He isn’t trying to take over scheme and calling plays, he just wants to be around the players and bond with them to keep them out the portal. It makes sense. These coaches should welcome it too as networking with him, maybe some keep their jobs.
