I lurk on a boating forum and there was a thread about idiots that can't swim going out on boats. I've never knowingly met a person that can't swim but apparently 50% of the country doesn't know how. I'm sure living in Florida the percentage is heavily skewed.

There are only a handful of states where you can swim in pools year round. I mean, I'm in ATL and pools here are only open for use about 3-4 months out of the year and maybe 1 out of 500 houses have one in their backyard. The only kids who are strong swimmers here use indoor pools to be on swim teams. This is one state north.
