probably just saved my dad's life.

I dont give a shit if its anecdotal evidence, its my dad.

A "non-essential blood test" led to a "non-essential MRI" which led to surgery scheduled for next Wednesday.

Glad to hear
Pisses me off. If they had delayed this because of covid-19 fear for a few weeks he could have either died or been paralyzed. Next time I hear someone say that i just want people to die by saying the shutdown needs to end I'm going to flip shit.

I'm sure we will have a lot of non covid deaths because they stopped doing other operations at hospitals. And now very empty hospitals. So dumb

It's non-essential surgeries you dingbat. People are still going to the doctor.

Glad your dad's ok though

Wtf? Mammograms and biopsies are not considered surgeries but they've been backed off. NBD though, time isn't a factor when it comes to cancer. One of my best friends who had a heart attack last year and deals with high blood pressure and diabetes was told not to come in unless it was an emergency. He went in yesterday and his blood sugar was 486! He was puking his guts out and couldn't walk. Non-essential my ass.

My step dad had a biopsy 2 weeks ago. Everything was fine.

All of that stuff is not seen as elective. I don't know anyone who's been denied care and neither do you because both stories you shared ended with someone going to the doctor.

Yeah, dad saw a doctor against recommended protocol and Jimmy only saw one because it was an emergency that could have killed him, instead of the weekly blood work that was delayed. Radiology is freaking out because they're going to be inundated in a couple of weeks.

There are unfortunately a terrible amount of nurses and other healthcare workers that have been furloughed due to this situation. Elective surgeries account for up to 80% of revenue for a decent amount of healthcare systems.

Imagine, having cancer --and having your surgery delayed due to this ridiculous B.S.

You would have to imagine it because it's not happened to anyone. Imagine posting on a message board that somehow "cancer surgery" was considered an elective surgery.

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. I've been an RN in surgery for over 20 years. YES--cancer surgeries are being delayed!! YES, I know people personally that are being postponed. YES--YOU don't have a clue on what you're talking about!

No one has a problem with it unless it happens to them, or a family member. Clueless people....... un f ing believable....

We didn't have the PPE for elective surgeries. This wasn't a social distancing thing. In the VA they were reusing 2 masks per person that had to last for 4 weeks.

Who are you blaming for this shortage of protective equipment?

WRONG. There was enough PPE in the majority of hospitals to perform surgeries involving cancer. Next?

Where did the shortage of PPE come from? Well, Sherlock--where is most of it made? Another issue--small and medium healthcare systems can't afford to stock up on 6-8 months worth at a time.

They were reusing N95 masks, I'd imagine---not regular surgical masks.

The VA rationed 2 masks for 4 weeks. It's indisputable. If anywhere in the country was having issues imagine how bad it would have been if we didn't restrict surgeries.

By the way who restricted surgeries to begin with?

From Feb 29th

  • Reschedule elective surgeries as necessary.
  • Shift elective urgent inpatient diagnostic and surgical procedures to outpatient settings, when feasible.

Many quotes also specifically talk about preserving PPE.

If you have a problem with how the executive branch of the US government handled the crisis please exercise your right to vote in November. Thanks.

Beta males are the ones that overreacted and causing this mess. The solution is way worse than the virus.

This whole mask thing is such a stupid distraction. I don't care if a mask has been used for 5 minutes or 5 days, its still effective enough to keep you from coughing on someone.

You are using the VA as a reference? oh my .........

I just texted a good friend of mine who works in a VA hospital about this---he was amused that someone thought they were the benchmark!!!
